slow spool

I have a te51 with a red stripe converter. After reading all the posts im thinking my lag is due to the converter. The car comes alive around 2nd gear but it seems to take forever to get there. Will a new converter give me a little bit more off the line. My tires dont even squeak a lil bit from a dead stop but that 1-2 shift chirps them quite a bit. Any ideas??

A 51 should work with a stock converter Yes the right stall for your app will help the turbo to spool up fast.

I just invested in Bruce Toelle's Xtreme Converter because of the same lag problem with my 51. The 51 seems to be on the fringe - some are happy with the spool, some are not. What does your red stripe stall at? Your 51 should be happy with 2800-3000.....
