ARE YOU SMARTER THAN A 5TH GRADER?

There are 7 girls on a bus
Each girl has 7 backpacks
In each backpack, there are 7 big cats
For every big cat there are 7 little cats

Question: How many legs are there in the bus?

None....(except possibly the driver). The girls were ON the bus and the final question is "How many legs are there IN the bus".

dont forget the 3 daddylonglegs crawling behind the 10th row seat, and the two flys buzzing around...oh and little sally has head lice

None? All the girls are on top of the bus?

Edit: Oops: I see Epitome got this already

I dunno. Assuming it's not a trick question involving the 'in' versus 'on' thing, and assuming that the driver is taking a smoke break while all these girls and cats are on the bus, I get:

7 girls * 2 legs each = 14 legs

Each of 7 backpacks has 7 big cats: 7 * 7 = 49
49 * 4 legs = 196 legs

For each of the 49 big cats there are 7 little cats: 49 * 7 = 343 little cats.
343 * 7 = 1,372 legs

If you add up all the legs: 14 + 196 + 1,372 you get 1,582 legs?

Jim

EDIT: I skipped a 7 in there - I was wrong. I cheated and googled it after I posted.

I dont think that show uses "trick" questions regarding on and in.....if this was an actual question. (Which I doubt, this is harder than any 5th grader I know can do)

Honestly I think my problem with all of this is...

In 5th grade i was too busy chasing down a girl name Chrissey
In 6th grade it was Missy
7th was Missy as well
8th grade it was Chrissey, Missy, Tami, Kim and Sue
9th grade I spent most of my time with Missy and working on my old 640 Skidoo
10th, 11th and 12th I think i was either working on all the neighborhood girls, my sled, my car, going to concerts, sleeping in class or peddling dollar doobies out side the south entry to the lunch room

So when it comes to Akidemics I think im pretty much dumber then a box of rocks

I think your figures forgot that there are 49 backpacks not 7. 7 girls, each with 7 back packs.
