Soda blaster

This machine really has my attention, looks like the perfect tool for removing the paint from just about anything including fiberglass, wood, metal, and glass.

Anyone have any input on just how good they work, especially on removing paint for cars.

Any particular brand/make and price range that won't break the bank?

If time is not important they work great. They don't tear up as much equipment or product.

If you have any rust, it will not take it off. Does a great job removing paint without damaging thin panels.

I bought the conversion kit to change my sand blaster to a soda blaster. It looks like it would be easy to duplicate if you could get the ceramic check ball. But it works great, does not heat/warp panels, does not pit metal, and removes paint pretty fast.

WHo's are you planning on buying.

At this point I don't know who all has them on the market. I know Lowe's have them as I just checked...prices ranged from $415. to 3,000.

Anyone have any suggestions as to which make/brand is a good buy? I don't want a commerical sized unit, all I want to do is remove paint from a couple cars.

I have the eastwood conversion unit for a harbor freight pressure blaster. Let me say I love the way it works and would buy another one in an instant. But a few things.

1) You really can't convert an existing blaster and switch them back and forth. The problem lies in a little flow restrictor in the soda line. It's small enough that a 30-40 grit piece of abrasive will stop it up. And you can never get ALL of the abrasive out of the tank. Smaller grit may be a problem too. Plan on having seperate blasters for abrasive and soda if you want both

2) The design allows you to purge soda out of the tank after use but it leaves a little slug on top of the flow restrictor that will block it. After taking it apart once I figured out an easier way. Just hit the blast hose with an air gun to blow the blockage out.

Works great though. I blasted my fillers back to bare urethane and they cleaned up nice. Also works great for cleaning T-wheels. Those that aren't to nasty.
