has anyone used softseal weather strip around the doors on the hardtops? if so, did you have problems adjusting the windows to them. i have the softseal replacement seals and i cant get rid of the wind noise. should i see if i can find gm seals?

I personally haven't, but spent a lot of time with a friend trying to get his "right". Never did, Soff Seal doesn't live up to it's name. There's nothing soft about it when compared next to OEM. I replaced mine with 1A Auto seals after seeing his problems. 1A makes great stuff and if feels exactly like OEM.

I put on the 1A on my GN, had to adjust windows, and once I replaced the riveted guides, they sealed fine.

I put on softseal weatherstrip on the elky (Door and window). Windows seal somewhat, get some windnoise after 50mph. The door weatherstrip is a POS, doesn't have the plastic inserts on the ends, so the weatherstrip pulls and tears loose from the 3 screws at each end. Ended up having to use washers.

I have both OEM and softseal. The OEM stuff is EXCEEDINGLY expensive! I checked with Kirban last week and the roof rail (around the windows) was about $449!

The softseal stuff I bought was about $150 or so for roof rails and the strips around the doors.

As noted above, the ends of the pieces do not have a plastic insert and Are prone to ripping.

As for the the construction, the softseal stuff is substantially harder to the touch than the OE stuff except in the upper corner of the window (the 90 degree angle)

Adjusting the windows is a PITA either way and both of mine still have some wind noise at some speed or another. While I have spent considerable amount of time adjusting and readjusting (and I have the book too), it never seems to get to 100% perfect. Then again, after a certain amount of time I start experiencing the law of diminishing returns and increasing adult beverages ;) and well, you know the rest.

If I had lots of cash to spend and was wrking on a show car, I'd go for the OE but for the price of the SS stuff it's not SO horrible.

BTW, I have not tried the 1A stuff yet...

As I stated earlier, you can get OEM quality without the OEM price from 1A

thanks for the replies, i spent hours trying to adjust the windows. i think ill try the 1a. yeah, i did see the price of the oe. rediculous.

Anyone have a ink for A1? My brother used Metro and it fits nicer than SS but still not a soft as GM.

i did the 1a seals and was impressed, they are nice.
but my windows rattle bad. where are therivets that need replacing? my window moves in/out alot and rattles when you shut the door if its rolled down.
thanks in advance

Thanks Chris. Thats the stuff it's sold by A1 but MFG by Metro. That's what I'll be using. GM can keep there's for that $$$.

Call Steele. I have had great luck with them...they are honest aned make killer parts. I cannot stand Soff Seal...their stuff sucks, huge!!! The Steele folks make great parts, but you will pay for em. Personally...I'd rather pay for really good stuff that is made in America, (unlike the SS crap!)
