I just finished doing rear seat braces and as I was taking the seat out the bottom sound deading sheet just fell apart in my hands. What a mess!! Should I replace it or just put the insulation back in without the deading sheet? Will it make a big difference?

I can tell you there's a big difference with nothing back there, compared to having all the material in there.

Dunno about just having 1/2 of in, but if you're into having a cruiser, then I'd get some sort of matting, and put over a sheet of whatever the NHRA min metal is. That way you have a good firewall, and good sound deadening. Yep, alot more work that way, but for quiet, and safe, IMO, that's the best answer.

Just did it

I replaced the stock muffler with the cat back and needed some sound deadening to help kill the drone. The answer is a "door kit" from fatmat. www.fatmat.com
Well worth the $50.

All I know is it weighs 18lbs, so in the trash it went.

My wife says I can't hear anything, anyway.

In my ignorance, I ended up installing some carpet foam from Home Depot.
Custom fit some pieces and placed them in the doors as well ....... behind some 18 mil plastic sheets. Got to be better than nothing.

Took all of mine out. Was about 20 lbs! No noticeable noise increase in my opinion. Running a Hooker dual with Aerochamber mufflers.

What? I can't hear you..

Hi,
All kidding aside, I have an idea that's cheap and effective. Bubblewrap. It's a great sound deadener, and light as a feather. After years of using it as a gag, like when you stick it under someone's tires,or throwing it out, I experimented. Lo and behold, it's a pretty good insulator! Try it, you'll like it!

Bubble wrap HUH. Sounds like a great idea. Air insulation. If I put them under the rear seat will they pop?
