Sound off if you're using an LT-70 turbo on the street

Bubbbuuubbuuutt I don't like race gas. :(

Plus it was a good deal. :)

If it can't drive daily I'll go back to the 62.

I'm running a T72 on the street. You can see the rest of my combo below. The only thing that I need to change about the combo is the stall.

It must be in the converter then as to how it will drive on the street. I drive mine all over and it has great street manners. Took my older brother out the other day (no car buff) and he said it was just like a normal car....until I nailed it. Launching with boost "WILL" be a problem as it will just spin until you let out of it. Drove it to and from the track 11.4@117 on 17 PSI 1.59 60' with the head gasket popping its ass off. Oh...DR's all the time. I may switch and just go pure C-16:eek:

You can use a 70 turbo daily but you have to have the right converter, and the right chip (max effort). You'll have quick spool-up and lots of power.
But, on the other hand, (like Woody said) I would never try to run that much turbo on pump gas. I'm not saying you can't run low boost and keep it together, but I would watch it like hawk on pump gas.

Anyone install one of those without a cam. or ported heads?
Why not open that thing up this winter, I'm sure you can run one but I think you would be surprised at the difference of the other two.....

I have a friend that ran a T72 w/out ported heads or bigger cam. His car is not much fun. Really needs to do that. I think that it would be hard for him to hit 11s.

I ran a 70bb on the street w/ no problems. You have to learn how to race on the street if thats what you want to do. Hell, there are guys w/ 8 and 9 sec cars that know how to street race with em.:)

Actually I just want to stay alive this winter when I put the snow tires on the car. ;)

No street racing. :p

Just trying to hit the 11's on pump gas and Nittos or perhaps ET Streets.

At LVD too, big handicap there. ;)

Only has 150K on it not time yet for heads and cam.

for reasonable street use, I would think a 60 would be about the biggest you would want....the "best" overall street turbos are undoubtedly the TA-49/TE-44......the only way anything bigger will go faster is in full on race trim

most folks can hit mid-high 11's with a 49/44 in race trim.....if you wanna go faster than that, you don't have a "street" car
anymore!

I should have mentioned that my car is only a weekend driver. Therefore, for me a "street" car consists of a tank full of 111 octane at all times and 22 psi of boost. I don't waste my time with pump gas junk. As far as a converter goes I've already got one and it could be restalled if necessary. Of course running on the street eliminates the use of slicks, but I do run drag radials which even the TA49 can vaporize at will. Basically I'm looking for a turbo that will give me some more performance at the track with slicks and C-16, but will help or at least not hurt my performance on the street. Thanks again for all the replies.
