I have a pretty good oil leak somewhere. I thought it was the valve covers, but it leaks as the car sits for weeks. The oil level is below the vc gasket in the head, so thats not it. The intake manifold gasket is dry too. So what else could leak up high like that? It would have to be somewhere oil stands, because it just keeps leaking. Cars been parked for 2 weeks and still leaking. I guess the girdle would be the likely culprit, but I have oil drips on the damn head gasket! I have a puddle about 1.5 foot around. Leaks off the tranny too, runs down the bellhousing. It drips on the crossover bad, car smokes when you shut it off. This sucks....

Check the rear of the intake for leaks. Stick your fingers down by the knock sensor the slightly back towards the front. You should feel if the gasket pushed out this way also.

Yeah, I checked that. Its dry there. It has to be coming from high somewhere for it to run down the bellhousing and for it to drip on the crossover. I'm about to make a heat sheild for the crossover so the oil won't smoke when it hits it! Pretty sad huh? I though maybe the head gaskets were leaking oil, but even that would stop after a few seconds. Its done it since the motor was new, well it still is new with maybe 400 miles or less on it, but when I put the intake on and stuff it sealed very well. The valve cover gaskets were the only thing that were questionable, and I replaced those too. But those wouldn't leak that much after the cars parked.

Congrats on the GMHTP article BTW!

Thanks! The car took a hell of a beating for that article.

Is it maybe coming from the rear the rear cam plug i? Ive seen leaks out of those. Also the L/R lifter feed plugs.Get a flash light and check it out. You could brake kleen everything back there and start fresh checking.:)

I hope you guys can figure the leak out because I've had the same thing for years. I gave up trying to find it. Mine drips from the rear drivers side of the oil pan flange onto the crossover but I can't find where it gets there from. The side of the block is dry as is every where but the corner of the pan unless I've missed something. Good Luck!

I recently had a pretty bad leak and couldn't detect where it was coming from, it seemed to be coming from everywhere...
Alot would make its way to the crossover. It never sat too long then, which I guess didn't help with the leak tracking. I wound up putting it in the air and sprayed the motor with cleaner until I traced it back to a hairline crack in the front cover. I had it apart not too long before and took great caution on putting the front cover on, but the crack looks like I didn't have the pin lined up correctly and torqued it down?

My bet is that rear cam plug, and heres why: When I got this motor from Nick Micale, I put my intake on and primed it on the stand until oil came out of the pushrods for awhile. I noticed a leak and found one of the plugs for the cam galley leaking. It was tight, just whatever sealant he used didn't work. I pulled it and resealed it and it was fine. For some dumb ass reason, I did not pull and re-seal the other plugs. I should have. Man, if I gotta pull that tranny for this 2 minute fix I'm gonna be pissed!

That is my luck as well. It gets even better if you really think that is the problem, yank the trans and it isn't the problem...

Best of luck!

I found my oil leak. Oil pump wear plate. I didn't tighten the bolts enough.

Also I have the oil on the passenger side of the x over pipe. I think it's coming from the valve covers. I've had them off several times since new. (cork)

I have been fighting an oil leak coming from the oil pressure sending unit after adding an aftermarket gauge. The oil drips from the frame crossmember long after the engine has been off.
HTH.

Turbosam6:

I also have a girdled motor built by Nick M. It also leaks oil on the crossover pipe. Is the cossover pipe usually set back that only leaks from the cam plug will drip on it? Could oil leaking from the girdle drip on the crossover? I am interested to see what you find.
Thanks.
