Which is the best spark plug to use with the alky system and what do most of you gap them at? Keep getting a big pop when the alky kicks in! Thanks, R.B.

I've been running anywhere from 22 to 24 lbs boost & have my NGK UR-5'S gapped at .032.I had them gapped at .035 & was getting the popping too,but since going to .032, it seems to have solved the problem.

Tha Darkside:cool:

The Darkside, thanks for the info. I've seen where a lot of people are changing the gap to .032. Why does this seem to help with the popping at higher boost levels?

I tried to get the UR-5's at 2 different Pep boys, but because it wasn't listed in the computer for the GN, they couldn't figure out how to find them for me:rolleyes: . So, I got some AC43's gapped @ .032 and it cured my popping problem.

AC Cr43ts gapped at a tight .032. The reason you tighten the gap is because as you increase boost, you need more voltage to light the fire. The extremely high cylinder pressures take a good spark, thats why Buicks dont have the DIS system instead of a conventional distributor. So by tightening the gap you make it easier for your stock ignition to fire at boost levels it was not designed for

A long the same line, anyone experience with reading spark plugs when running Alky? I don't run alky, but do pull my plugs between runs. Just thought it might be an interesting discussion.

Its very hard, at least for me, to read plugs with alky. They are very clean and white.

What I do is look under a magnifying glass for any aluminum. When I was trying different chips, you could see them. That's why I ended up running a Thrasher 92 because of the really low timing. My car just doesn't tolerate timing for some reason.

I'd be curious to hear how others do it also.

Both my cars hate anything but 0.035". Any less and it will flood out when the alchy comes on. I run 24-25 psi.
