87 GN TE44 009's, TA Headers, 3" DP, 3' Duals, Currently running Autolite 23's gapped at .045. Bought it this way, Suggestions ??? Pump Gas, TT 93 chip, Walbro hot Wired. Thanks

Should be able to run a high 12 if you can run enough boost on 93. It is all in the 60 ft.

Why do you need a higher stall converter with a TE44? If it were me, I'd ditch the 009s and get a set of 60's and a matching chip if you just have to spend the money.

and I would close that gap up. I can't imagine your car want's a .045" gap.

There is guys on here going lower 11's with that turbo. Like Earl said you don't need more stall with that turbo either. Mine is only a 2400-2600.
If you have to change the maf, mine as well go 3.5" LS1 instead of another 3" like the stocker.

With my combo, do you think high 12's on pump gas is possible? I am getting ready to install a higher stall converter and LT1 MAF with translator.

I fully agree with you on the converter! :)

Just this past Saturday we installed a 3000 Hughes converter in a stock turbo Trans Am and that car responds and runs MUCH better on the street! The customer just came by today to tell me how it really improved the car's performance.

We have found this converter upgrade to be true also with many 44/49 turbos.

I have that same converter and it works nice, not sure why some don't like it.

It has been 14 years since I owned my last turbo GN and I cant remember all of the tricks of the trade (like plugs and gap). I also remember something about a converter lock-up switch and fan switch but again, cant remember all of the details. I am still fixing little bugs here and there. My goal is to run 12's on pump gas. I dont care if it is 12.99. I found some no ethanol gas and the car seems to respond better to this fuel. This is why I am asking about plugs and gap. Just need some coaching. Thanks for your help.

Still running stock intercooler. Dutweiler neck or stretch??? I am going 12's on pump gas then 11's on race fuel when the weather cools down. Memphis summers "HOT" !!!

Not long after I got my car (early 2000's), I had a combo that was very similar to what you have now - TA49, stock IC, stock MAF, red-stripe (38-lb) injectors, re-stalled D5 converter (if I remember correctly), can't remember if exhaust was still stock or if it was the ATR 2.5" system I have now. With decent 60-foot times (say 1.8 to 1.9), I could run easy 12's on 93-octane unleaded. I made my very first 11-second pass with this same combo, slicks, and 100-octane unleaded on a cold day (35 degrees or so). So, with your combo and decent tires, 12's on 93-octane and 11's on race gas should be doable.

To answer your original question, I've been running NGK UR5's for years. I don't put many miles on my car, so I've only had two sets in the car since about 2003 or so. They still look great. Gap is slightly tighter than stock. I think stock is .035, so I'm probably running about .033.

Good Luck,
