Alameda: City reviews emergency response after drowning - San Jose Mercury News

BTW, I went thru lifeguard training, no reason they could not have rescued this guy.

There was plenty of reason why they didn't rescue him. He wanted to hurt himself and was unstable. Would you go in after someone that didn't have the will to live and didn't care who he hurt in the process of hurting himself. He could have had a knife or a gun even. You should get all the facts before you post up something you know nothing about...

The San Franciso firefighter's funeral was a tough read for me....but such a beautiful service....I did get a little teary eyed....such brave guys they are, such a close family...takes a lot to do the type of job they do....and we can see the negative results that can happen....very sad.

Thanks for posting this, 1fast6. It just made me love these guys even more.

I guess the possibility of them getting hurt is why a bystander had to remove the body from the water.

One of the most dangerous things to do is rescue a person who is drowning. If I know how I would be truly amazed that none of those experts in public safety didn't know how.

Enjoy your life of tunnel vision.

Enlighten yourself and google the article, seems that "offical" lack of training, probably a union ploy, is what kept them out of the water, not a weapon.

Injdinjn, lets see how this one strikes ya. Back in October of 2006 there was a amish school house shooting see here:
Amish school shooting - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At the time the Colonel of the P.A. State Police was in Baltimore Maryland attending a function for a fallen officer. The Maryland State Police offered their helicopter to fly him back to P.A. to be with the community and all of those involved. The Maryland State Police also assisted with transportation of patients and parties their at the scene.

The Maryland State Police Medivac helicopters are provided at no cost to the citizens. There is a fee that is charged for the helicopter added to the vehicle registrations fees in Maryland however There is no charge to out of state residents who happen to use it when they are involved in a accident and need transport.

Do you think this is a misuse of Maryland tax payers money in this incident.

You know we can pull this junk up all day long. What does it prove.

For every one of those I can find the exact opposite. For instance google "The biggest street gang in America".

Listen to Dave Champion commentator and ex LAPD talk about bad cops.

So you just keep banging your drums. Personally I have other things to do.

Im not banging any drums, I was just asking if you thought this was misuse. By your definition it is. It goes both ways some more some less. I agree there seems to be a lot of backwards and crooked types of things that go on in California. I'm glad I live on the East Coast, seems like there is less problems here or maybe just less publicized. Who knows. I look at it this way, embrace the good things and try to do away with the bad as your never going to win the war. Government as bad as it can be, is needed in one way or the other, because for all the bad that it is there are also as many good things.
