Ok, I have a th350 tranny and my speedo stopped working last week. The day after, I was driving and I heard and felt a loud pop under me (where the tranny is). I had my friend put the car on a lift and I checked the cable and it looked ok from what i could tell and I pulled the dash and the cable was ok on that side also. I also hear a "tinny" sound sometimes when I hit a bump or shift into drive or reverse. What do you guys think?

Here's what I'd do.

Disconnect the cable at the tranny again. Cinch the cable end down in a power drill chuck and give it a whirl. Does your speedo work then? If not, you've got a cable problem or a speedo head problem.

If so, the problem is in the transmission. Pull the driven gear housing for a look see. The housing should contain a plastic gear that mates with a plastic drive gear that is located on the output shaft. Each gear should, of course, be undamaged. Also, be sure that the dirve gear is being held solidly in place on the output shaft. There is a small clip that locates and holds it in place.
