Speedo-gear or cable??

So I bought and rebuilt my dad's 87 GN and when I'm driving the speedo is climbing but bounce around like a MFer so you really can't tell how fast your going. Dad says its the speedo gear, just checkin' on here to see what you guys say before I start tearing stuff apart.

Had the same problem, was told it was from burying the needle two much, easy to do since the stock speedo only measures to 85 MPH. Speedo shop repaired it.

Mine bounced around before I greased the cable.

just fixed mine last month. Pull the cable , clean it and coat it with vaseline. Speedo shop in Reno said to use nothing else.
