Okay so a while back my trip odometer started clicking and working intermittently..... then it just stopped. My regular odometer works fine...

... a couple a days ago it was nice out so i took my T for a drive [the weather was 20-30º F] well i got on it a "lil" and all of a sudden the speedometer makes a loud "Whining" sound and the needle starts bouncing around.

[to me it sounds like a gear wasnt seating right and was just spinning....]

well my question >Whats the deal? is there a rebuild kit i can buy? is there a company that rebuilds these? Is there something that i can install that is cheaper than a 16-1700 GNX dash.???

My speedo and trip works fine, but my trip reset doesn't. Maybe there is something to help my speedo gauge as well.

Usually when the needle starts bouncing, that is due to the cable needing oiled or replaced. It is tough to spin internally. But with the trip meter acting at the same time basically. Sounds fishy. Hopefully we can get some suggestions.

My wife's 442 dash did the same thing. I took it apart and it looks like the gears aren't staying centered and in constant mesh with each other. Kind of "apple-cored" a bit. Installed a different cluster until I get this one fixed. Also in need of a repair shop. :(

Aaron, I'm not an expert but it sounds as if your speedometer cable is broken or has frayed. My 85 Monte did something similar and the cable frayed and the speedometer stopped working. You can still get new cables from GM. You may want to try to remove the old cable which is in I believe two sections on our turbo cars (my Monte had three pieces). You should see one connection under the hood near the powermaster. I haven't had success taking the cable apart at this connection but you might. You might be able to determine which piece is bad. If not, you will have to remove the whole cable. On my Monte there was a clip that held the speedometer cable in place up near the firewall behind the inner fenderwell. I had to loosen the inner fenderwell to get my hand in there to release the clamp. I'm not sure if the turbo Regals has this so just don't start pulling if something is stuck. I think the odometer is another issue. John Spina wrote some go info on how to fix the Regals odometer at http://www.installationinstructions.com/FYI/TRIP ODOMETER REPAIR.pdf On who rebuilds speedometers in St. Louis I don't know anymore. The shop I knew closed several years ago. Hemmings Motor News lists several places but you would have to send it away. Hope this helps. Call me and we can discuss more if you want.
