Went to a car show this morning. 3 miles down the road I got to a stop light to turn left. Arrow went green and I made the turn. As I got onto the new road, I felt a shudder and some low-toned sputtering. I realized it was backfiring and popping though I was only going maybe 25 and very light throttle. Vacuum gauge was going crazy but fuel pressure looked fine. It died and I pulled over to the side. Started right back up and I let it idle for a bit as traffic passed. I got back out on the road and gave it a little throttle. It went but then started to sputter again so I pulled into a neighborhood to get out and see what's up. I let it continue to idle, popped the hood and got out. I looked everything over, all looked great. Started wiggling every wire I felt I could touch including the pos and neg cables. No stumbles, nothing. Plug wires looked in place and ok. Revved it at the throttle body, revved up fine. Closed the hood, decided to continue on and cruised backroads @ 45mph all the way there. Got on it a few times and it seemed ok.
I did rinse down the engine last week and I blew it dry with compressed air. I also had the EST out cleaning up that bracket on the passenger fender. All I can think is I got some water somewhere and it caused the problem. It never did it again but of course I was wary the rest of the way there and back. No codes were ever set, no CEL.
Just one more thing to wonder about. It seems to be using way too much E85 in my opinion but that's another story.
