Anybody foolish enough to use a stage right trans brake with a stock hard parts trans stock driveshaft and rear ? If you have how many runs did you get away with it,what 60ft time, car weight

I had a stock build, 10" 3000 non lockup converter, in my 85 with the exception of an 87 servo, 10 vane pump, wide red band. 60ft was 1.9. 3570lbs. Launched at 6psi. Raced it that way since 98. Sold the car in 06 and it is still together with the new owner Bruce. No billet parts. No hardened forward. Only "hardened" piece was the correct sun shell as the pre 85 got the standard sunshell and they stripped out. I did have blue clutches throughout the trans with my valve body kit.

Is anybody Foolish "Enough"?

Jeez, nice way to insult people who have and do so, but in MY opinion and if "I" were you, I would ask your mom if it's "safe" to come out and play with your car, I promise you it's not so maybe stay on the porch or under the bed, where ever you feel smarter. You would invaribly do something wrong with it and look for someone to blame.

Kevin.

Kevin, I thank you for coming up with the Stage Rite. I enjoyed the hell out of it every chance I got. I think Bruce loves it too as he now has my old car. :)

Not trying to flame your brake I want to try one,I have a stock rear, stock driveshaft, stock trans with shift kit,3200 lbs,art carr 9" convertor which I need to get loosened up really curios what the difference on the convertor between foot stall and stall on a brake.Never drove a car with a brake I hear it's like a freight train hit you in the ass when you release it not trying to flame anyone who uses one already either maybe I should have asked the question am I foolish for wanting to try a stage right brake in a 10 second car without having better axles, trans parts, driveshaft etc.

Thanks Eric, but the pleasure is all mine, every time I see the drivers satisfaction after the first 10-15 lb launch (which usually has front wheels dangling), brings a smile to my face quicker than their 60 foot times
I was and am thankful to those who showed faith in it, and believe me, it took a bit of time to convince some, after all, my name isn't Art Carr or TCI. The memories since are priceless.

Kevin.

I remember way back when you were getting ready to release them. You and ****** were keeping us informed about melting out pump bushings before any trans brake damage was happening. That was back in my WebTV days. :D Love that brake and still am going to put one in my Vega/GN project when the time comes to do that trans. :)

I'm not sure how your question came off offensive at all.... But to answer your question it is hard on stock parts. If you are expecting to break the tranny and have the rainy day funds to buy what you want later on then go for it. I would not want to T brake launch a 10 sec car without good axles and and at the least a good set of solid U-joints. But breaking a driveshaft can cause a lot more damamge than just the shaft. It can break transmission internals/ case/ carriers, beat up the floor board or 700$ stainless exhaust system etc.... Axles and decent u-joints are cheap compared to the potential damage. (good studs to btw)

I had a Stage Right T/brake on my previous Turbo T. Otherwise, totally bone stock, original (135k) tranny, rear dif, axles, ujoints, ect. I did have a driveshaft loop. I eventually got the car into the 11s with no mods from the tranny back. Fully loaded, 3600# car, running 26x10 M/T slicks, 10+ lb launches. Never had a problem. I only had about 50 runs on it when I sold the car. Low 1.6s were my normal 60 ft times.
1st time I released it, I lifted immediately. It felt like something exploded, it left so hard! After that, it was so cool. Maybe I was lucky that everything held up, maybe it was just a matter of time. I know that I'm ordering another T brake for my latest GN addition, probably today. Dave

I just called CK Performance. He had the Stage Right for $39.99 shipped! I just missed that sale. Now, it's back to $150. That's me... Day late and a dollar short!

If you don't mind twisting a few things, it works great. :D I didn't break anything but did twist the driveshaft yolk and O.D. spline. 60' was 1.57 :)
