Am installing a new 400 turbo w/manual valve body and brake.
This car sees limited street and strip. Not worried about the lack of O/D, gas milage, etc. Car has the hardware to run mid/low 10's (see sig below), but it's doubtful that it will be thrashed hard enough at the track to see low 10's. I would be happy w/mid to high 10's. (actually, I will more often run 1/8th mile)
I had a 3600 stall converter w/lockup with the 200. I am thinking of going w/a 4000 stall. Because of the lack of lockup, I have heard that some converters with 4000+ stall can really loose top end due to too much slip in high gear.
What would be the recommendation here? Do I need 4000 stall to achieve mid 10's and good spool w/the 66 (I could get 16# launches with the 3600, and that was all the brakes would hold on the line. W/a trans brake, that is no longer going to be a concern) Would there be a compromise in stall speed (36-3800), or is there a brand of converter that does better at providing the desired stall with less slippage on top? The trans is coming from TCI, and was considering their converter as well unless you all have a better choice.
I know "streetable" is a relative term. I have owned hotrods with manual valve body transmissions, and don't mind shifting and the constant high line pressure. But I don't want a converter so loose that it can no longer be driven for the short scud-running that I do. On the other side of that, would really like to see some big air under those front tires on launch...
Thanks in advance
