Can the stall speed of a convertor change over time or will it always remain the same ?

IMHO stall speed will be the same every time with the same torque input... and same converter fluid pressure. If it isn't.... something has changed.... pump pressure going to the converter....something is actually wrong with the converter (fins layed over).....or the torque input has changed (more torque coming from higher boost... or bigger engine... different cam.... all can effect the torque).

Clear as mud?

Sorry to be so lengthy.... but this is what I think could have an effect on stall. Your original question somewhat implied that nothing else changed.... and later... (all of a sudden sorta).... the car now stalls (example) 500 RPM higher than it used to.

That basically answers my question. I purchased a car that supposedly has a Precision 3,000 stahl convertor. I have looked at the convertor and the convertor is definatley not a stock convertor, but it does not feel like a stall convertor when driving the car.

FWIW, my 3200-3400 vigilante acts like a stocker until you have some sticky tires on it and try and brake build some boost. Then it will come up to 3500+ RPM at 5 psi boost.... but driving around town... you will never know it...

A few things involved with the torque converter can change its stall, assuming all other variables outside the T/C is the same.

Internal thrust surface wear.
Ballooning.
Fins laying down.

Basically, anything that changes the clearances between the pump, stator and impeller.
