Ok here is the long story short, put new tranny in and it shifted perfect for 5-6 miles or so, then it bagan to start out in 2nd gear and would not shift into 3rd till extremly late. I took the valve body down and found a check ball out of place, and fixed that. It began working pretty well but after about 10 miles it began doing the same thing. I went all out and pulled the valve body out and completely disassembled it and found a completly stuck 3-4 valve, and a TV plunger that was sticking once it came out past a certain point. After cleaning the whole thing and reassembling the valve body it worked better than ever with only a few random 2nd gear starts. After about 25 miles of driving it started doing the same thing. uggghhhhh. Here is what I've noticed, when it starts doing this, it really bangs into gear when put from park to drive(normally it just jumps a tiny bit). All the shifts are very late(including the 1-2 if I manualy drop it into low 1) and very hard (usually I just limp home in 2nd because 3rd won't shift until 65 or so and this was regular city streets) It basically feels like it is being fed way too much line pressure. I know this is not a valve body problem now, every valve in there worked perfect not a burr or hang up on any of them. What is left that could be a culprit? The pr valve in the pump? something with the governor? The Band or servo? The servo is a out of a 200 3spd and works great. I was able to move the output shaft via the driveshaft clockwise easily and counterclockwise with resistance but seemed just right clearance wise. I can push the band a little from under the car. Any ideas? anything would be great guys.

Well after it sat over night I just went for a ride, and here is what it did. It started off in 2nd gear from the very start, cold and all. When it started in 2nd gear it will not shift into 3rd till very late, but if I manualy drop it into low 1 it shifts the 1-2 fine now, and actually has a 2-3 at normal times. But if I come to a stop and then go, it starts in second and stays there.

Ok, I put the stock servo back in and no change at all still starts in second and acts the same.

P/R valve

I`d pull the p/r valve & make sure that`s free. If you have a whole bunch of line they`ll start in 2nd.

You have a guage on it? Take some TV out and see what it does. Mine likes 100-120 psi at idle in gear.

Ok here are my pressure readings. all were at 1000 rpms or very close

Test #2

D 150-155 145
2 150 140-150
1 140-145 135

These do not look very good, this is with a PTS pump with all the bigger boost valves, ART CARR shift kit and such. I am getting full TV when it goes all the way back. I did the second test after the fluid got a little hotter, there was another test that we did at the begining right after starting it but since it was not up to operating temp we discarded it. It does not look like my low reverse valve is doing its job, what can cause this and can any of these reading explain my problems described above, mainly starting in 2nd gear? Thanks guys

Run test again at 1500 rpms. Report. I see what is going on, I just want to confirm it.

Check the boost valve

Make sure you have the boost valve assembled correctly. I had mine wrong & ended up with something very similar to your problem. I had the inner piston of the valve upside down in the sleeve.:o

The PR and low reverse boost valve are definatly in there right because they have never been out since the pump was delivered from PTS and the pump is the same one I've had in there through a couple of broken internal parts(input shaft and OD planetary and band anchor), but I agree that they sound like possible culprits. thanks

Well to anybody following this I just wanted to update you, i'm pulling the tranny out, I pulled the pan today and the TV valve was stuck(due to a fine metalic debree), but after looking at the pan and the magnet, there is a lot of debree like small metalic flakes like glitter. I'm pretty sure pump or torque convertor is slowly disintigrating and sending crap into my valve body, effectivly causing all of my little problems. The tranny should be taken apart tommorow so I will update on what the problem was. It could be anything with my luck.:D
