Brad did julio sind u a longer line for the alky to turbo or did u just get his normal gn kit ?

Not sure what Brad did, but I ASSume Julio sent him a longer hose. When I was still hot air I asked Julio about it and he said no worries, I just needed a longer hose which he could provide. Hope this helps. ;)

I installed the pump and tank first. Then Julio had me get some video cable and measure how long the fuel lines needed to be. He then custom made them for my car. Brad

While back I found that .030 gap was best for me (NGK UR5's). Have run 25~ psi no KR with 93 and PAC using methanol.

I'm a bit confused about this resistor....and what it fixed. When I bought my PAC setup Julio mentioned a relay I might need saying some need it some don't. Please explain what this resistor fixed exactly....

I was one of the first new progressive kits which I bought last October. I installed the kit last fall and never tied it into the turbo until March. I didn't want to pull the turbo twice since I was having head and intake work.
After the new heads and intake I started testing the kit and it would not turn on. The LED by the boost gauge was drawing all the power from the PAC -the grey wire. We disconected the LED until Julio could get me a resistor between the LED red/orange wire and the grey wire. I put the resistor late last weeks and the kit seemed to run better. Going to test a little more- Keep you posted. Brad

I adjusted the TV cable and the IAC screw. Everything feels good and the car is shifting correctly with no knock. I was only looking at my boost gauge until my last run( I watch the knock gauge three runs before I ever look at the boost gauge) and I am at 18-19ibs boost.

Here are my numbers in gear at idle.

o2-765
blm-127
int-128
tps-.42
iac-20
mal-0
af-06

I will reconfirm tomorrow and if all is good-turn the actuator one half screw shorter and retest. Brad

I finally have the car tuned to the max. I cannot take any credit at all because fellow forum member TENRIGHT did 90% and told me how to do the other 10%. Problems I had were the aftermarket hood heat shield, IAC set to zero and fuel pressure to high-48 with line off. All my reading are near perfect now and the car really hauls ass on 93 octane.

The final result on 93 octane is 16 lbs boost -no knock with my mods. What Tenright did in 60 minutes would have taken me along time of trial and error. I am only where I am because of him. Next mods are to find a 2 1/2 downpipe and convert to the electric fan. Brad

What happened to the 20 psi? Is 16 all you can manage without knock WITH alky? Or is that without, at your baseline tune?

I was at 20 psi with no knock because the fuel pressure was at 48 line off. The car was flooding out. Tenright lowered the fuel pressure to 45 line off and fixed the IAC. The car really hulls ass now. The maximum boost I can run with the alky at full with no knock is 16 psi. This is a big improvemnet over the 8 psi I had before. My next mods are electric fan and a 2 1/2 inch downpipe which I located today. Brad

Squid- Remember that the 16 psi is on 93 octane. If you want higher boost levels you will need to raise the octane level by mixing race gas with 93 octane. Brad

Not entirely true, you can get 18 with alky on 93...on Brads car though he was drowning it with fuel. Believe me you would rather have a car at 42 or so psi fuel at 16lbs boost then 20 lbs boost at 48psi fuel....always remember the leaner the meaner.

when I first road in his car it was struggling under boost....after we tweaked it and lowered his fuel pressure it was breaking the tires loose into 2nd gear but showing 4.2 degrees of KR....still the big OMG! ear to ear grin on Brads face would have been a great pic to show the difference between hi boost and low fuel pressure. He will still get to 18 or so on pump gas, but for now the car is running at 210 degrees just driving....His PAC kit is also the old one and I believe Julio has included a bigger jet with the new ones, this can be accounted for by increasing the flow at the pump itself...Anyway Brad did not have a good base tune, so essentially he is at square 1 with the alky tune.

I would also like to add that his car as it sits will probably dip into the 13's, not bad for an almost stock 85....

good luck and happy tweakin.....

:D

Tenright is right on. I am staying at 16 psi on 93 octane until I cool the motor down and put on the 2 1/2 downpipe. Then I will start raising boost. Give me a couple of weeks and I will revive this thread. Brad

Good luck!!

I'm very curious and tempted by this alky stuff.......

I wonder how would it feel in my car with my I/C.

Any ideas how much boost could handle Alky+I/C?

I have eliminated the stock mechanical fan and have gone electric. Big difference. The electric turns on at 168 degrees and shuts down at 160. Life is good. Next step is install a 2 1/2 downpipe. I will keep posting. Brad

Guess I should update everyone as well....

Today was a barrel of laughs, yesturday while driving, and giving it some WOT runs she started bucking, showing low boost levels, and basically acting stupid. I have my alky off as this is the first tank of 93 octane that has been in the car since it was rebuilt and I needed to find the point where knock appeared. After I got it home and did some investigating I found that the wastegate was hanging open occaisionally. Open and close it 5 times it would not close all the way at least once. Thats where the fun began....

Figuring I could take it apart and get it to swing without haging up. I took off the wastegate..."SNAP!....and SNAP! again" to bolts sheered off......@$#%@$@!!!!!....Definately use some kind of antisieze...so today was spent at the machine shop....happy to say it all worked out, and it is back up and running and ready for alky tweakin, I hope, since I have not takin it out for a drive yet. This also afforded me the opportunity to zip up some vac lines I missed, seal up my oil return tube, "Black RTV where the tube meets the grommet". And seal the wastegate housing "Red high temp RTV". The waste gate is smooth now and does not hang at all.....

last run before this mess.....16lbs boost no knock, alky off, 93 octane, 0.0 KR
Should I be able to see 18 with less the 2 degrees KR, I should be able to get well into the 20's with alky on and 93 octane.

New update- The change to the electric fan gives me more room to increase boost. Tested three times before I ran out of alky. I can easily increase boost but I am waiting on the conversion to a 2 1/2 downpipe and the Jaysgn uppipe before I touch the waste gate actuator. Tenright gave me the tune. The new downpipe will get me to where I need to go. Brad

lol Brad I knew you would get that up-pipe told you that at lunch.....please for the sake of my sanity stop calling me tenright.....Tom is fine..

News on my end, my car has been acting strangly, irratic FP as in it's fine but after driving a while it starts really acting up, floor it and it goes nowhere, less power and boost from a slow roll, kicking and bucking just acting really stupid. Then when I get it home the FP is reading very low line off. When I take it out at first it's awesome, fishtailing the car into second gear...but after a couple of miles or so it all goes to sh**....

well I think I have finally figured out whats going on...out of desperation to not have to drop the gas tank and replace the fuel pump I figured I would check and change the plugs....well one of them is wet with fuel on the threads....bad injector dead give away....42.5 009's on the way

Tom- I knew you would swap out those injectors as well!. News on my end is that with the electric fan I have more room to increase boost past 16 with no knock. I am going to leave the car alone until I get my stainless steel 2 1/2 inch downpipe installed and see what it does to my boost setting. I do not know if the Jays uppipe will make a difference in performance. I mainly bought it for the appearance-I didn't want a solid downpipe and a braided uppipe. Keep you posted.

I absolutely love that up-pipe from Jay....many kudo's to jaysgn.com. It is litterally the only after market pipe that fits everything, stock headers and aftermarket headers as well.

I ordered my injectors FED-X overnight..and mmmm, another chip from Eric, while I was at it  those front tires rub on big bumps (New heavy duty springs on the way), while the turbo's off gonna put on the stainless steel oil return tube I had sittin on the work bench (Hoping to stop that mystery oil leak I can't seem to find). Gonna convert to the 86/87 actuator I couldn't resist picking up....I am so addicted to this car..... ;)
