Well i think that it sucks. Ben normaly rides cruisers i am not sure what he was doing on a CR. I think that he is going to be back and be fine. They said that the knee injuries were not as bad as they originaly thought. He also said in an interview last year that if the law stated he had to wear a helmet that he would. I for on wear mine every single time i ride.

I just want to know, why does it take a famous person to get hurt for anyone to raise a stink? I lost a good friend to a bike accident and there was not media over that. He was wearing his helmet but no leathers. He had hit his chest on a car after the first car sent him flying and collapsed his lungs and other internal injuries. Its a law that you wear your seat belt in a car that covers you with steel, or something close to steel, but no helmet or leathers for any motorcycle rider that choses not too? Just stupid if you think about it. Ben would still have his face if he followed the law , which required him to wear one. I wish him the best and hopefully he gets his head out of his butt.

helmet law

helmet laws are state laws and Pennsylvania does not have one on their books.

Yes they do. It's 21 or older with 2 years of having a motorcycle license. Anyone under the age 21 must wear a helmet, and permit drivers must wear a helmet.

Sounds like you dont ride. Tell me, just because it is a law does that mean you obey and abide by it. Going over the posted speed limit is also a law but I bet you speed anyway. Why? Same reason Ben and I and a lot of riders dont wear helmets. Its a personal freedom. Common sense and it being the right thing to do has nothing to do with it. The reason you dont see seat belt laws repealed is because they aren't enforceable. You wont see cops chasing down everybody that doesn't wear a belt. Every state that has a helmet law makes it a primary offense to not wear one. A cop sees you riding without one and whammo! Ticket time. Because belt laws aren't enforced that automatically makes it a personal choice by the driver if they decide to wear a belt. There are other factors to consider when not wearing a helmet. First there is no incentive as far as those states that dont have them. When I buy an insurance policy for my bike everything BUT the rider can be insured on that policy. If I have a passenger on my bike and I wreck which requires a trip to the ER for me and my passenger and a trip to the shop for the bike, the bodily injuries to my passenger are covered but not one dime of my injuries are covered. Bike policies are not the same as automobiles in other words.I have to carry a seperate medical policy for myself. Try getting a rider policy on your existing health coverage and you'll see why I'm angry about this issue. I know there are plenty of guys that dont even think about that when they ride. If you get in wreck you better hope its the other guys fault(like in Bens case)and he has to much coverage. Shame on you if you think the state is going to pick up the tab. You could end up loosing everything you have assuming you survive the crash. My current health coverage has a dangerous hobbies clause, much like Bens contract. What this means who the heck knows. Because of it I ride to work wearing a helmet. I'll let the lawyers duke it out as to whether I'm covered if or when I have a wreck. I think it suks. Much like a helmet law I dont need or much like having somebody tell me how I can live my life. Its a personal freedom. Not gauaranteed by the Consitution or a right by God. Its my choice plain and simple.

Personally, I respect your choice and others. Ben has a greater purpose to fans and children of Pgh. He has a greater responsability, he is a franchize player.

My only point about the belt is , in Pa you can get pulled over and fined for not wearing it. They set up check points all over, just like a DUI check point. They didn't make wearing a seat belt optional like the helmet. They are kind of the same thing. Both safty are devices, both could save your life, some cases it doesn't matter either way. No disrespect intended.

Another thing I heard was he didnt have his license. All he had was a temporary license which expired in March.
