Hey guys,

Still new to Alky but figuring some stuff out. My setup is at the bottom -- The 22* chip seemed to be too much and I couldn't get a good handle on KR. I'm running a Thrasher 97 right now and about 21-22 psi boost -- 0 KR and it's going pretty good. Still rich as hell according to the scanmaster, though. I have never gone WOT and had o2s lower than 850. Hearing you guys in the 700s makes me wonder what's what. I'm running 41-42 FP line off with the 21-22psi boost. Car really takes off .. but, flattens out in third -- I have to pull off of the gas to get it to continue pulling. Feels like it's way rich and the o2s would support that. I'd hate to pull back even more on the FP. I'm using the .024 nozzle and it kicks in at 11psi. The throttle response sucks on this chip too.. so, I've bought an UltraChip.. and waiting for it. Should have some fun with it.. but, really interested in dealing with this rich condition.

Thanks
jp

You should of gotten a chip from Eric that was specifically made for alcohol injection. Also why you running high timing? You should get the car running on low timing first.. then up the timing. Else you can find yourself chasing your tail.

18 degrees is a good start when your having problems. Low timing, mild boost like 20 PSI.. then work on leaning out the fuel and trimming the alky. Once you have this mastered.. then start squeezing one step at a time. If you think you can run higher timing, leaning it out, and get instant results.. a lot of times this doesnt happen. Some cars it does..some it doesnt.

Rich on the O2's can be from too much alky as well. And yes it will keel over in third with 850's for O2's.

before spending money on mods, ask us. Hopefully we save you some heartache.

Thanks, but

the car came like this. It had the 22* Jay Carter chip in it when I bought it. Too much KR.. and not much boost movement.. so, I went to the Thrasher. Found it in the TL box. I'll have a better chance to figure out what's what with the UltrCHip I think. It's a great car.. but, need to tune the combo.

A thrasher93 would have been a better choice.

Just my humble .02

???

WHY? I'm running 93 octane -- + alcohol. If I'm running rich now -- I'd be bog city on a 93 chip, no?

MaxEffort. I have never found single chips to be satisfactory. My supposition is that chipmakers make them super fat to prevent knuckleheads from blowing up their rides.

Julio, what gnman87 is describing with his Thrasher is exactly what I experinced when I tried my Thrasher93 a few weeks back. I lost about 10mph in the 1/4 with it  Zero KR but bog bog bog. Static FP was as low as 37psi when I went ahead and threw back in my JL 93/20* chip. On the streets [at times] I get more KR than I would like with this chip if I decide to just get on it, but on the topend KR is pretty controlled. Already set the alky turnon a bit lower.........wish I could work the O2s down with the Thrasher, just a bit hesitant to keep turning down FP.

gnman87 I think I do know where your coming from, you sure thats a Thrasher97 and not a 93 though? Dont know what the 97 is timing wise but I would have guessed around the same as that JC. Havent had a chance to try one yet but heard nothing but good things about what Eric is doing with his chips.

See the thrasher 93 is designed for 19-20 PSI boost fuel wise. You run 22-23 PSI now your starting to lean out and have the alcohol kick in as the extra fuel. Hence why chip guys ask"How much boost" are you planning on running.. Why becuase the MAF once it hits 255 gm's.. your computer doesnt know anything else. A 24 PSI chip will open the injectors way more than a 20 PSI chip.

See the octane number on the chip dictates the timing the chip puts in. The higher the octane.. the higher the timing. While you can run higher timing with alcohol, typically its better to figure a car out with low timing vs high timing. "Eventually" you work up to the higher timing.

So to run 18-19 degrees vs 23-24 degrees.. car will want to detonate more with higher timing. Make sense.

Now the thumbwheel chips if non-adjustable just give you 8 wrong settings. Cuase the only way to get a correct setting is from having a chip calibrated to your car. Via an adjustable chip/setup.

Now Justin, sure the chip you used was for your injectors? That thrasher locks the BL's at 128 at WOT.. so its a fuel pressure thing purely. Almost all the cars i've ever run them on have leaned out pretty well with it. Also not all cars like the thrasher. Only problem really I find with the thrasher is its lame on the bottom end. Due to the lower timing.

Erics chip tho.. thats another story. One of his new version 5.3's that allow for 1/2nd timing adj, 3/4th timing adj, and WOT fuel adjust.. that chip absolutely rocks.

The Extender/translator plus also rocks..

As does the ME-r ;)

All very interesting

Truth be told. I found two chips in my TurboLink box. One says Thrasher -- and then a series of numbers .. the first two of which are 97. That's why I'm assuming it's a 97 octane chip. Also in the box was a Thrasher chip I assume to be a 108 octane. I'm making that assumption because the first numbers are 108. I am not going to try that one on 93 pump fuel and alky. I don't know the timing of either chip. I got a very good deal on the UltraChip for my injectors.. will see what it feels like. I have a MAF translator ..but, not the plus. That may be the next step.

got the ultra chip

Got the UltraChip tonight -- pretty good at number 4 -- 5 it really runs well.. looking forward to trying 6 -- no KR at all right now.

p.s. My dad's GN was stolen tonight. If you live in the South Florida area.. please read my post in the stolen section here.
