Time to speed up the GN now that I've got it back to near stock. Only mods now are:

Forged TRW's
Hotwired Red's XP pump
60# inj, various JayC and TT chips
Adj FP Reg
Kirban 3" stock elbow downpipe
3" test pipe
Aluminum radiator
Boost/vac gauge
Tach

Pump gas 93 E10 it runs low 13's hot in full weight street trim (baby seat, spare, change etc in the car) best of 13.0 @ 104.5

I'd like to make it faster but only with a chip and alky. I searched and it looks like you can take the stock turbo to 25-28psi with 27* timing in 1st and 24* after that. Would this be a good base setting for a full race kill TT chip on a stock heads/cam/intake/turbo/IC car? Single nozzle Alkycontrol?

Alky will wake it up for sure.
First off i see no mention of your 60' time. What kind of tires do you have

If you dont have a set of drag tires and or are only cutting 1.9 ish 60' then the alky will just make it worse with teh added power.

Whats your goal. Stock turbo will get the 12's all day with alky and a decent hook

Goal- run solid 11's at 115 mph as a backup car to have fun at Reynolds if my T isn't ready to rock n roll, I have so much to do on the T and so little spare time with a new 3 wk old daughter (still have a 1350 driveshaft to install and rebuild rearend, new fuel system to go 9's, find a trailer, remove glass and put in new window trim pieces, stereo, etc...) but alky I can tinker with on the GN and have in with a few hours and then sneak out to the track when everyone is sleeping to set it up.

I borrow the 275 50 17 M&H drag radials from the T or the 28x9 MT ET Drags in the garage. I'm planning on putting a shorter tire on a spare set of T wheels for the slower GN, like a 26.0/8.5-15 MT ET Drag or just a 235 60 MT D/R should work too.

Stock turbo, stock neck IC, TT alky chip, 25 psi and a 1.7 60' will get you around approx 109 -112ish low/12's high 11's with the conv onlocked at WOT in 70 degree weather.

Everycar is different give or take.

Be careful with the tune and rock on

I might just have to throw my ported irons sitting in the garage on the GN to help it move out.

i think the 115 is a stretch,ed brewer i still believe holds the fastest stock turbo/intercooler/motor.his fastest pass was 11.37 116mph,i think the 60 was in the 1.49-1.50 range with alkycontrol on 26inch tires.as stated above 109 to 112.ive played with a stocker with a 10inch converter mt dr 25 psi and alky and the car was impressive.its a neice no hassle mid to low 12 combo that is reliable and doesnt break the bank:D

115 on a stock turbo can happen.. but the stars need to line up.. like 44 degree track temp, -300 DA, and all the tuning to be spot on.

112-113 is more doable. 110-112 is average. on a stock turbo. Its not the heads.. but the turbo.

Ed also had a dutt neck on his IC. His best pass was 116.. maybe 117 on a cold Kansas City afternoon at the track.

112 will get you low 12's.

Joe Mooney's car with a stock longblock and GT3255 went 122 mph.. 11.2 with drag radials.

No need to run that high of timing to get 11s. I ran 11s on my clone (that I have since sold) earlier this year and 11s in my GN last year, both on a stock turbo. I had only 21 degree timing running 22lbs of boost in my GN on its 11.9sec runs. I'd say forget about 115mph, 110mph is a realistic goal that not many even do.

One key is a good 60ft. You need a low 1.6 to a high 1.5 60ft. My 11sec stock turbo runs ranged from a best of 1.58 60ft to a worst of 1.61 on both cars. Both cars had good bushings in the lower and upper control arms, but the GN had both stock swaybars while my clone had an H&R rear bar so you don't need a fancy suspension. Unless you are really hammering the car off the line off a transbrake or something, its hard to get a better 60ft than that because you are power limited.

I didn't even lock the converter in the GN, so there was probably another 1/10th there. Getting rid of extra weight will help too. Light rims, taking out the spare, etc helps. A weight with driver of 3700 or so is good. Asking a 3900 lb weight to do it would be difficult. I'm not a small guy either, so I left another 1/10th on the table.

Another key is good weather. Having a DA around zero or less will give you that extra 1/10th or two.

My GN was nearly stock with a dutt neck while my clone had slight ported heads, a 206/206 cam, dutt neck, and a TH400. A lot different combos but I got 11.9s at 109-110mph out of both of them on pump gas and alky. With the heat from the stock turbo and a stock location intercooler, alky seems to work really well. I might try to get a 3rd car into the 11s on a stock turbo, my red T (no bar in it and it will run faster than 11.50 on any non stock turbo... no fun letting off). My red T is a full blown Champion head/intake, roller cam, TA headers, CAS V4 IC, HR swaybar, TH400 with tbrake car so it will be interesting to see what a stock turbo does on it.

Hmm, its already at 104.5mph on pump 93, I would think I could "easily" squeeze 10 more mph out of it with alky, boost and timing, but it sounds like the stock turbo is the limiting factor preventing that.

You wont know until you try.. one thing for sure.. in Florida with the heat and humidity we have.. good luck on your quest :D

I think 27 degrees is alot to ask of pump gas/alky, I would start lower and work my way up

Sent from my DROID2

I'd ditch the stock IC and just ran a lot more alky. It would extend the stock turbos compressor map a TON and improve MPH since you're not eating up like 5psi in the intercooler.

Julio, I'd be curious what nozzles you'd think the stock turbo would need to keep cool around 27psi? I'd assume two M10's would be a good start. ;)

Actually.. if he wants to tinker.. do three nozzles. One at the inlet, one at the discharge of the turbo and the third by the TB. The pre-turbo nozzle will move the mapping because it makes the air coming into the turbo much denser.

2 M10's post turbo, 1 M2 pre turbo

But this is thinking outside the box :D

"You serious Clark?" That would be cool- I want to keep the car stock as possible (cam/D5,IC/turbo) since it is nice to drive that way. JD says its the quietest GN he's ever heard.

If the car where mine.. i'd take it to its limit with the stock IC.. until it wont MPH anymore.. figure out what timing it likes.. what boost it likes.. and once maxed out.. go and play with ditching the IC.

Still the same alky kit.. just some more nozzles and a little fab work to make the J pipe from turbo to TB

I believe that had a front mount and d/p... Russ know since he did the work...

Get a TTA  I think 115 would be no problem. We ran 114/115 on a stock TTA (race gas/DOTs and an open exhaust) ) ...stock turbo, intercooler, converter , bla bla bla.. Wifes new car in 89/90. Now throw an Alky kit on it an crank the boost a little more.. more is good :p hmmm.. thinking here. Any stockish TTAs out there running Alky ??
