Stock D7< VS > D5 stock Torque converter?

Just Wondering the Difference between the 84-85 (D7) <8656956 & The 86-87 (D5)> 8656954

I have read that the Stall speed of the earlier D7 is around 1700 Rpm and that the D5 is 2000?

Please reply you Torque Converter experts !

actually i believe the stall speed on the stock d5 converter is 2400 rpms...

Not sure if this helps but iwhen i had a d7 in my car the car could not power brake or launch... The i put the "right" D5 and it ran incredible... SO i guess i'm sayingmaybe the stalls are the diffference..

D7 vs D5

The stalls are different and that is why you launch better with the higher stall speed. You did not mention what you are running thru the trans though. The engine build and use will dictate what stall you need to maximize the power you are developing. Mark

I Just would like to know What the factory rated the D7 stall Rpm <> aprox?

VS , what they rated the D5 stall Rpm ?

I took out the D7 in my 85 turbo riviera Convertible and put in a Dacco 7727 pro-street intruder, advertised at about 2300-2500 stall, I also changed my differintial gearset from 3.15 to 3.36 at the same time, Car has total different personality now, a lot quicker starting out, and 1-2 full throttle shift is like a sling shot !!!

But,? , I am hearing Nothing but bad news about the Dacco 7727 converter on most threads, JUST how DUMPY is this tin can?
everyone agrees that Stock D5 is alot better than a 7727 Dacco.
