here are some pictures of an aluminum rod that were manufactured to fit a stock block w/ stock length. not sure of the weight difference but I would venture to say 50-75 grams lighter. They are manufactured by GRP and can be purchased from there.
Have Fun....

stock vs aluminum

Aluminum's are Race only rods.. Every 150-300 passes they need to be Cyglowed..:( Thats the only down side to running them.. The damm thing love to stretch out..

We have a customer that has a odball BBC with a set of 6.550 GRP pro rods in his tow vehicel. Going on 45,000 miles and no problems.... Good job to Troy and the boys at GRP :)

How much?

No clearancing for them? They look nice...

Now how much?

My friend had a wagon with a 455 in it that had aluminum rods in it. The guy he bought it off of wanted to take it racing, but ended up selling it cheap. Not sure exactly how many miles he put on the engine, but he drove that beast for 2 years and never had any problems. That huge boat would run down rice burners no prob.

I've heard that before that AL rods have to be changed and on a race engine they probibly do, on the other hand I've never heard anyone running them on the street has had strech problems. I admit my experience in street AL rods is limited, only know 3 guys personally running them and another 5 guys (street racers in Houston) that run them. I think of it as a risk but if you get quality parts and install them right...no problem....I want to put them in my Dream GN motor....coming someday!!

I talked with a rep from Groden Rods a year ago and he strongly recommended them for a street motor.

I don't think "stretch" would ever come into play at 5500 rpm's, and the alum rods will take a lot of abuse under compression. Hmm, might just be a new trend... ;)

Well, Mabey my old mans ProMod makes alittle more power than our little engins..:D He runs C@H rods (Best money can buy) , and everytime we tare it down, the rods go back to C@H to get CyGlowed.. More than half the time they have been taken alittle to far, but he is also making over 1925hp.. Its a 706cu in Shafiroff motor with an SSRE/NOS system on it..

If I send someone some pictures, Can they post them??

Thanks in advance,
Matt:cool:

I'm sure rpm plays a big part in the life of the rods, but I think heat cycles might affect them more in a street car. Thats just my oppinion and I have no evidence to back it up:)
