stock shifter cable question?? help!

hey i was driving the car when all of a sudden my shifter just went up and down not going into gear. i looked under the car adn the shift cable had popped out. i tried to pop it back in and it popped back ou again. it looks like it shold slide in a u shaped holder in some grooves. now my question is am i missing some kind of c-clip to hold it in there in the groove? im guessing it poped off. can i go to the store and get one?? this is just my luck, thanks

any1 know what part fell off if any. the thing wont stay in the groove so i cant put the car in park hwen i drive it. =(

There is a "c" shaped clip that presses into the bracket,which holds the cable in. If its gone, then yes it fell out,no your cable wont stay in. You may need to visit a junkyard to find another one.Not sure if its still available from GM.

I also need this part as I still have the 3-speed cable in there from when the TH350 was in the car. I have one on order from GM but I'm not sure if its the right one. It was on backorder so I am still wating for it. The reason I am not sure its the correct one is their computer lists it as the same as the U-clip at the shifter end, but this clip on my shifter is too small to fit on the trans end of the cable. I will let you know if its the right one when (and if) it comes in, and the part #.

ok here is the newest prob. i got that done and it was doing fine. then the ohter day i go to put it on park and it wont go all the way at first. a day or 2 later of this and now the only way i can get it in park is if i go under the car and put it in ipark. once the car is in park i can bring it donw to any gear one at a time i just cant go back up. so once im in drive i cant go in reverse unless i go under the car......wtf?? is there a lever missing? there is a lever coming up to the firewall that seems to be just clanging around and loose. what sohuld i look for it seems that hte shift cable is hooked up fine, hell it seems everthgijng is since i cna go donw thorugh the gears just cat go back up. any ideas?
