When it rains it pours....lol....does anyone have a known good stock 86-87 torque converter in the South NJ or Philly PA area they are willing to sell. I just smoke the tranny in the car and I wanna throw in a Monte SS tranny for the time being until i have more time to build the original. I at least want to use the correct converter. So busy right now and already spent way too much time on this car. Let me know.

look at the monte unit it may be a D5 some are. especially 87-88ss then your fine.
even a d6 or d7 will not be horrible for a daily driver I would just toss it in and go. use the cash to "better" your rebuild

I was considering this option too....might just do that unless someone wants to give me a killer deal on one ;)

Where are the markings that distinguish the converter ID

I have a regular 200 trans 3 speed ran fine when removed with torque converter for $100 i could meet you with it in jersey-should be good for a temporary fix. matt 347-680-8642

You nailed it, bro!!...I never looked at this tranny I got closely...friend gave it to me and told me it was from a Monte SS..I was like whatever, Ill take it. I went to my garage today and looked at it....Its a CQ tranny and it has 5's all the way around the converter...SCORE!

Thanks to all that replied but I will not be needing this converter after all.
