To some this would be bad news, for me it's nothing but my reason to put the Billet wheel on. :biggrin: When I removed the turbo I noticed some of the blades on the intake side were ate up pretty bad. :( Before I place the new wheel on I went ahead and bought a PTE Turbo Saver to try and prevent aother mishap.:rolleyes: Is there anything other tasks or chores I should perform before I button this thing back up?(Besides the PTE) I'm in a holding pattern waiting on the TT chip to get RE-Tweaked, and porting the WG hole on the Turbo. So I have time to do something else.

Any tips would be cool as I'm trying to only do this once and have no costly mistakes.:cool:

Are you performing the complete rebuild yourself? Or just swapping compressor wheels out?

If this is a stock turbo, with high mileage and you have no idea how long the wheel has been run with damage, it could also have wear on the journal bearings and possibly the thrust bearing. This would be due to the imbalance of the compressor wheel. Also, is there any damage to the turbine wheel? Do you see any signs, of either wheel rubbing it's respective housing? This would also lead to an unbalanced rotating assembly, further creating wear.

If all of these conditions are what you have, I would highly recommend having the turbo completely rebuilt, vs just swapping out the compressor wheel and hoping for the best. If the bearings are worn, or if there are signs of rubbing or damage to the turbine wheel, just swapping the compressor wheel will not cure the problem. It will eventually wear out again. Our PTE oil filter relocation kit, will provide the turbo with freshly filtered oil, vs the stock unfiltered oil feed source from the block. But it will not save an unbalanced rotating assembly in a turbo from further damage occurring.

Thanks for the reply. I was really talking about removing the stock and putting on the my new Billet 6262. In that process I was going to install the PTE Turbo Saver and check or repair any other thing since the blades had broke. I was going to change the oil, plugs and wires. Anything else I should check?:confused:

Ahh, gotcha, swapping turbos. Stock to 6262.
I think you have the bases covered except if you are still utilizing the factory oil cooler inside the factory radiator. I would recommend no longer using it and either eliminating it, or replacing it with an external oil cooler.
Also, if you are running a stock location intercooler, now would be a good time to remove it, and flush it completely out with cleaning solvents.
This way, any oil, FOD or debris can be flushed from the intercooler and not make it into your motor.
Just a thought.

I'm not using the factory oil cooler. ;)

I'm using a PTE Front Mount. ;) Should I clean it?
 
Ehh, if it was blowing oil out the comp cover discharge, I'd probably drop it, clean both pipes, t-body and plenum, but that's just me. If not blowing oil out the comp cover discharge, you should be good to go.
