Recovered!!!!!

Well I took off work yesterday and got a copy of the report from the PD. I first read the report to verify everything was acurate, what do you know dumb a** documented everything. So I asked to speak to a supervisor on duty to file a complaint about the poor service and lack of judgement I had received from there patrol officer. The Leutinent on duty read my report and listened to my story she then marched me right back to see a detective. The detective and his partner followed me over to the location where my car was but no one was home. I asked them if they would follow me to my home 5 miles away and I'd show them where to look on the block for the vin. I also stopped at the local parts store to get a retractable mirror to give to them so they would'nt have to get under the vehicle if it was'nt totally necessary. Once we got to my home I showed them where the vin is on a engine I had out of a car. Then I raised the hood on one of my T's (I have 3) and showed them how to find it with the engine in the vehicle. They shook my hand and assured me they would go back over there later to verify the vin on the block later in the PM when they thought someone would be home. Got a call later about 7pm they were loading it on the wrecker. My next problem is all the visble vin #s have been removed from the vehicle and they took the bogus vin too for evidence. How do I get a new vin for my car? I guess my car is worthless now from a value standpoint might as well make it a all out racer. Anybody ever have this problem before?

Wow man. That's an incredible story. I'd like to know what was going through your head as you walked up looking at this car and how you realized it was yours.

I think if that happened to me I would be shaking with anger as I waited for the guy to come back walking to it.

Glad to hear you got your car back!

As for the VIN# I'm not sure how it is in your state. From past experience in CA, you will need to get a safety inspection done on your car. Once that is done, your local highway patrol will have to inspect the vehicle as well, and then the highway patrol will attach a new VIN# to your vehicle. In my experience wherein the VIN# was removed from the dash, the new VIN# was attached to the driver door jamb.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

 Excellent story! That couldn't happen to folks very often. Talk about being in the right place at the right time. That wound up being a rewarding trip to the parts store. :p

Hawaii is VERY similar... Auto Theft Detail will search for a C-VIN and once the vehicle is determined to be yours, it will be returned to you. Documentation verifying identity will be issued, then with that documentation you can go to DMV and register it with re-issued VIN attached to the door pillar

GREAT story. Glad to hear someone got their long lost car back from the thieves.

I've sent you an email regarding the hidden frame vin.

Glad you got it back, hope it's not too messed up. You'll have to do some inquiring at you Motor Vehicle Dept but I'm sure you can get it re-VINed.
