Well, the GF takes the “Daily Driver GN” out to go visit some old folks.
The older lady lives at the end of a cul-de-sac in a quiet neighborhood.

She walks out and notices this small car with 2 guys parked behind the GN.
All lights turned off and sitting there. She calls me to explain the situation.
I tell her; “You better hang up RIGHT NOW and dial 911”.

As soon as I state that, she says:
“ There is a police officer driving down the street in this direction”
“Well, jump in front of him and be sure to wave him down”, I say.

I get a return call about 5 minutes later. Apparently, at this time, one of the guys is handcuffed in the back seat of the patrol car, the other is being interrogated. The 2 infidels have no ID, Probably illegal.

The officer opens the trunk of their car, and sees nothing but car tools, as in: Slim jims, lock removal tools, slide hammers, etc. So, he does what every police officer would do; Handcuffs them and sends them for a free night stay in Jail. They get booked in jail, and a tow truck comes on to tow their car.

The officer stated that as a result of the “No ID and specific tools”, the bail will be set pretty high and some cars had been stolen in the area.

I have the usual TR owner custom security system, no GPS.
The car never gets parked where it can not be watched.

The government needs to open the hunting season on car thiefs. If you witness a thief breaking into your car trying to steal it, you can "lay him/her down" by whatever means! Bet they would NEVER try it again!

Watch your ride and be careful!
Just had to vent a bit.

Thats scary. Atleast she watched it or it would have been gone. I wonder what is so appealing to car thieves about the GN? Anyone a theif haha.

I have an uncle that is a retired detective from Milwaukee, WI. He was on the the stolen car task force. The reason these cars are sto;en so much is because it is so easy. He said he could show me how its done. All GM cars from that era where easy to steal, from the way the column was designed. He said 95% of the time they ran a plate from a Turbo Regal they where on the hot sheet. He told me some funny things the thieves would do to hide the fact the car was stolen, like put a towel over the the column to hide the fact that the ignition switch was gone, no key or the column was missing a section in that area. Also said many of them would put plates from other cars on the stolen car with the registration sticker on the front and the plate without the sticker on the back.

I keep waiting for someone to Carjack me but for some reason when anyone gets within 10 feet of my car the whites of their eyes pop out of their head like they saw a ghost.....! This is what they see poping out the sunroof and I just cant figure it out  ;)

The Doberman popping his head out of the Moonroof is priceless! I have an 87 Astroof, and should try to get a picture of my English Bulldog with his head poking out.

Dobermans are great guard dogs, and we had 3 of those crazy dogs when I was a kid. Used to try and attack everyone when he got in the car with us. Even my friends.

BTW, get a kill switch. I have nevered recovered a stolen car with a kill switch. It's not bullet proff but I have recovered hundered of stolen cars and none with a kill swtch. Plenty with alarms, clubs (cut steering wheel), etc.... None with a kill switch. I had my kill switch hooked up to my lighter and took lighter with me if leaving car unattended outside of a garage.

Thanks for the advice.
The car has the "usual" GN owner custom alarm switch.
I will add the "other 2" sometime soon.

Guess you've never bumbled across a car that was towed off. The GN I lost in April had a column collar and kill device. Supposedly (I heard through the grapevine) that my car was hauled off with a pickup and a tow strap and the scumbags were never able to get it started once they got to where they were going. So, they stripped the hell out of it.

Yea, there is litte one can do to stop from being towed away by a flatruck. GPS would help in recovery. Not cheap tho. Might not stop being stolen but atleast ud locate it before it's gutted.

It's amazing that the climbers on Mt. Hood did not have a PLB. They would be spending time with their familes right now if they had one vs. freezing to death. Hard to believe any hardcore hiker would climb in that environment and not have one. The hiker they found dislocated his shoulder and could not get down the mountain. It's much steeper then it looks on tv and u need both arms to decend. Sad.

the battery in a plb would freakin freeze and be inop. in a day and a half of that weather. Mine on my radio did.

PLBs have very good batteries. Especially if they are designed for that environment. We had em in Iraq, we never had to replace the batteries, and that includes testing them everyday.

The PLB battery is good till -40 (the right model) without any insulation from your bag. If it was designed for cold weather conditions it will stand up.

you had plb's in the army? holy cow you guys got some crazy new equipment lol. What would you need a plb for? ya got a radio lol. call your grid into your fob if someone needs to find ya lol.. At any rate, Id like to find out what kind of batteries those are, that will last for a while, in -40 degrees. That sounds like the bomb to me. I was the senior radio operator on the teams, and had used some pretty high speed batteries. Never seen one last that long lol. I guess the armys still behind the times :(
