strange c-clip eliminator installation question

Got a set of used strange 2 piece eliminators I am going to install. No directions obviously, and could not find anything on the interwebs. Anyways, I have installed moser eliminators before and had to leave a 1/4" of axle housing sticking out after the backing plate hub. Do you leave a 1/4" also with the strange 2 piece set? My search has shown everything from 1/4" to cutting it flat against the flange. Anyone know the correct answer? Thanks

Old post but how did you make out with the install? I had instructions form 06 that said 1/4" and the 2010 said 1/8". I left the 1/8" and siliconed the inner c-clip and the axle hosing ends...still have not run the diff. I also had to cut off the c-clip buttons off the axles. I just posted a link to a fix that I think may stop the leaks

I went 1/8" and everything has been fine for many passes
