There is plenty of good advice here, but I would keep one thing in mind, The closer to the tens you get the less reliable your car will become.

I know that there are plenty of board members here that will say otherwise, but from my experience the car becomes far less reliable and less comfortable to drive.

I have had cam, cylinder head and torque converter failures. All of which left me walking.

I am not saying that it cannot be done, I am just saying that the car becomes a different beast when you start to encroach the 10's.

On the flip side, my GN was just as good as a stocker and went repeated mid 11's. That was with no compromise of reliability, drivability or comfort.

Take the advice of the others and study, learn to tune, and know every in and out of your beast.

thanks for the tip... id be happy with low 11s out of the GN. i want to be able to drive around when ever i feel like it.

anyone have an opinion between the turbolink and the scanmaster? or am i asking a dumb question and they are the same thing

SVT,
The SM and TL are two different animals. The scanmaster is a requirement in my opinion. Its the size of a deck of cards. You mount it to your dash and never move it. You always have it with you. The TL is ran through the laptop, so you have to have a loptop riding shotgun, and you have to boot it up and hook it up every time (not hard to do). The good thing is that you can record the data and play it back later. The downside is that the update rate is only 1 frame per 1.5 seconds. In a 12 second run, that means only 9 frames of data.

The other option is Direct Scan which hooks directly to the computer of the car. Its much like turbolink except I get 18 frames per second. I'm headed for the 10s, so I wanted more than 8 frames of data.

I run the scanmaster at all times, because its there and its in your face, and use DS to tune the car and to record runs at the track. The TL and DS are on the laptop, and you really cant take your eyes off the road to to look at the laptop to see if you are running lean.

There is a comparison chart on www.gnttype.org

cool thanks man! now i understand the differences! sounds like the scanmaster is the way to go. thanks again.

Very good advice. I do the same thing. I have the SM mounted on top of the dash beside the boost gauge which is on the A pillar. This allows me to look at both things at a glance while street driving.

If you are going for anything faster than high 11's you should be looking at Directscan in addition to the scanmaster. IMO, TL just doesn't give enough data.

ok, well the scanmaster is the next mod on my list to buy... does anyone have a pick of what they look like? im just curious :)
