stupid cobra!

Ever notice how easily the little Buick "half dozen" seems to intimidate V8 Mustang owners. I don't fully understand it. They call us names like "big dad GN guys" and call our turbo Regals "invincible". They must think our turbo Regals are invincible. That's a good thing! Now that I think of it there are a few slightly modified turbo Regal's residing in Florida. Cal Hartline's name comes to mind along with a few others. I hear that Cal frequently drives his GN on the street and runs in the eights. Should be a close race!

I could not agree more.
Gary that's one hell of a street car you got in your sig

I wouldnt call it just intimidation. Mustang guys have nothing but respect for turbo buicks. They know a bad ass car when they see one. Most GM guys are quick to talk **** and run off at the mouth to every mustang guy on the planet, while most mustang guys will show respect to anyone with a fast car...even GM cars. Thats the difference between the 2 people. At least thats what Ive seen in my 25 years of hot rodding. Although when I had my cobra, I did run into a couple mustang owners with really big mouths, but later found out they had owned nothing but chevys up to that point. Kinda hard to ignore this trend. Cant really explain it. The Turbo Buick guys seem to be a grab bag of all different types of people. Alot of Chevy guys are all like homophobes stuck at a gay pride parade....they cant stop screaming and flipping out when anyone questions their loyalty to the big bowtie. They would rather die than be seen in a ford and all that stupidity. My Dad and every man in my family is a Chevy man, so I was mocked pretty hard when I showed loyalty to the blue oval at a young age. I couldnt ignore the superior engineering behind everything. An intake manifold can be pulled without pulling the distributor and losing your timing. The distributor is where it should be...where you can access it. They're the people who brought us the Holley Carb. The water pump can be swapped without dropping the oil pan and killing the front seal. A gear change can be done in an hour on a 9"...goes on and on. When asked why they hate fords, they usually have NO answer that holds any water. Their pappy hated fords, their granpappy hated fords, so they're supposed to hate them, but dont really know why. Anything that's different and requires a little thinking is scary.

I think you might be a little biased on this. You know, see'n how you're a self professed Ford guy! I mean, let's be honest. Mustangs are one of the most easily attainable "sports cars" on the market. I think the Camaro would come in 2nd. Plus, in factory trim the Mustangs have almost always outdone the Camaro. All that means is they are relatively inexpensive, and have a huge aftermarket waiting to take advantage of the owners that don't know anything about cars. All owners? Definitely not. Allot of them? YES!!! How many kids that think a 13-14 second car is fast buy a mustang or camaro and think they're the king s***? Tons. I've met lot's of them. I've stopped by when I've seen local Mustang groups hanging out places. I Compliment there cars and they sneer and act like I'm some nobody that doesn't know cars OR fast cause I don't like chrome and my car is a 6 banger. Meanwhile all they have going for them is there lamborgini style doors. Yeah, Mustang guys can be pricks. So can shivvy guys. To say one is worse than the other really isn't fair. I would venture that there probably are similar numbers of good and bad, based on percentage, in both groups. As far as the Cobra goes I've seen them run fast and slow. I think it's allot to do with driver. Bottom line though is there's only one way to find out who wins. So git er' done and let us know who wins. james

Well I didnt say all Chevy guys. But let me show you my list of cars from age 12.
63 Nova.
72 Vega w/SBC
64 Nova.
70 Cougar
91 Huffy mountain Bike from Sears. Rode that for a year to work.
67 Cougar
91 Saturn
94 Saturn
96 Nissan 240 SX
99 Cobra
87 GN
So that makes 6 GM cars and 3 Fords. I owned the GM's cause thats what I was into at the time, and the Saturns were something I was sort of backed into for awhile. I like fords above GM cars, although I think the GN is the best production car GM has EVER made. The SRT-8 is one seriously bad ass family car. Went for a ride in one a few weeks back.
As far as that attitude goes, Ive definetely without a doubt, seen more attitude from the Chevy guys vs. Ford guys....a ratio of 10:1. When it comes to cocky young kids with more car than they can handle, they dont count. At every street race or hot rod get together through the years, it was always the chevy guys struttin around like a peacock literally starting fist fights with everyone. Walk up to a Ford guy out of nowhere and say "**** you, you think your last on race day piece of **** is fast?" I cant count the number of times Ive seen it. Dont shoot the messenger. Its just an observation, and keep in mind how many GM cars Ive owned myself.

I think alot of people get caught up on hp #s when it's a lot more than just that like the driver.

Thats what I'm saying.

Just go race him....MAKE sure you do it from a dig. Don't let him con you into a roll start or your diffently dead. It could go either way. Tell that guy this isn't golf...no Handicaps period! My T-type doesn't have half the stuff you probaly have an only ran a 12.20...I have a friend with a stock 03' Cobra that runs 13.6's!

Vader. FWIW I was including you in the NOT an ignorant s*** talking ahole category. As far as cars go I've owed a couple as well and most were not anything to bring to a cruise night. However, in my experience there are just as many Mustang jerks as there are Carmaro pricks. No 10:1 ratio here. I however include prick kids that own Mustangs as Mustang owners because, well, they own a Mustang. They are a big part of the market. It is what it is. I would like to be perfectly clear though that I know not all Mustang owners are aholes. One of my very good friends has a 4 banger Mustang that runs mid 11's (yes in the quarter) I look forward to hanging out with him whenever I go to Michigan and I've learned a ton from him. My dad was/is a Ford guy so that wasn't it. I think I didn't gravitate towards Fords because of my experience with them. Nothing more. Doesn't mean I don't appreciate a good one when I see it.

Now as far my cars I've owned there's been
1 Nissan truck
1 Ford Granada
1 Ford Escort
3 Volkswagons (it was a phase )
1 s-10 (kinda fast)
1 1979 Montecarlo (N/A Buick V6 from factory. Bought it for one dollar)
1 Buick (the GN)
1 Dodge Omni (only Mopar I've ever owned.)
1 Chevy Cavilier
1 Nissan Sentra
1 Honda shadow

I think that's all of them. I don't know what that makes me but Mopars were my first love and Buicks are another favorite. Have a good one. james

I was going to say that it must be a SoCal thing, but then I saw you're in San Diego. But I can say there is an all together completely different attitude between LA people and SD people. It may be an LA thing, cause I noticed that OC people arent so hardcore "**** your mother and that Ford you drive" types of people. Drive a hot rod Ford through any city along the 210 freeway (where I grew up), and you'll get at least 10 slanderous remarks thrown at you, along with some sort of fast food or a cup full of soda. After all, Pasadena to Pomona is where drag racing on the streets started and really flourished, and Chevys were kings of the road. Ford hatred in that area goes WAY back. Must be where I grew up.
Mopars are the ****, no matter what side you're on.

Any of you big bad GN guys close to Florida? I wouldnt mind going against your invincible GN, money or for fun doesnt matter.. Just as long as we post the results in all these threads about mustangs...

Yeah badasst7 Cal only builds the slower GN's, you know like single digits.... so no worries......LOL.

Go get get em Cal. Wont be the first time a Mudstain had to be humbled by the Hartline crew....huh.

Actually....Cal paid for the sticker! He wanted to make sure it was BIG enough for the Mustang's back window ;) and it was worth every penny!!!! Glad you guys enjoyed the story, the sticker was even better than taking his money! ~Holly Hartline

ah, the classic "who are bigger a-holes" arguement... gm or ford guys... in my experience, it seems that most true car guys that build/work on their own cars and actually know a thing or 2 about them are pretty cool and will give respect to any quick car, whereas the cocky pricks that think their type of car is unbeatable are usually the ones that bought it like it was or paid someone to do all the work and have no idea what's under their own hood. buick owners seem to be cooler than average, being that our cars are kind of rare, cult cars that you wouldn't really think of buying unless you knew a thing or 2 about. however, camaros and mustangs are the most common "sports cars" out there, and right or wrong, everybody thinks of them as being fast. therefore, they attract an unusually high number of douchebags.
