ok, i just got "terminated" from my job today, because i failed to check the brakes properly on a guys van, when they were actually metal to metal, and so my employer had to pay for new rotors. basically, my question is this: is there a law or anything saying that non ASE mechanics cant be, i guess, trusted?? or anything like that, since im only 18 and my job before this was at Safeway and ive never had a job at a shop, so, NO, im not ASE certified. Is it just me or is this guy kinda stupid for trusting someone with absolutely no experience whatsoever????? if any of you are ASE certified mechanics and no anything about this, please let me know any info. Thanks in advance!!!

There is no such law.

You screwed up.

It was your employers fault really for putting you in a position you weren't truly qualified for however that doesn't help you now.

Yea here is a tip.. Get ASE certified

And like Blown Z said your boss was stuipid to put you on the job.

Move on to other job or bo back to school

Maybe you could have let him know you didn't know what you were looking for instead of letting him and the customer believe everything was ok. Not a flame, just what you should have done.

Goodluck..
