I finally got my motor back in the car and running (6 mon, 2 rebuilds later  ). The problem I'm having is cruising at about 45 mph, the car surges. The trans is in OD and the converter has locked. If I ease out of the throttle it gets more violent (has even made a loud clunking noise), roll into the throttle it smooths out. The higher the cruising speed the less the surging is there (buy 65 it's gone). If I put in D, it doesen't do it at all. It's a fully built 200-4R with a vigilanty 5 disc l/u converter (both are about 9yrs old, but only have 10 - 15,000 miles on them).

try to adjust the tv cable for the trans make it shift a little sooner. what is happening is the trans is hunting for od.
