just wondering at what MPH you should go to 28" Tires. Im Running 26X10.5X15's and wondering if i should still run them this year or go to the 28" tall tire. im running stock 3.42 gears. New motor is going in and should be traping 113-115 or so. Traping 108 right now with a 1.68 60 so far of the foot brake.

I run 117.5 through the traps and only spinning a little over 5000rpm. But that's with the TQ locked with NO slippage.

I would say trap over 110 before switching to 28s.

I run a 26" tire and run 116 unlocked TC. 120+ locked. I was tempted to go to a 28" tire myself, but locking the TC did the trick. ;) I have a 5 disc vigilante.

thats what i was thinking.o and the reason for the slow mph is because its still a hotair car.

With an easy launch on 275 50 r15 nittos, I was trapping 115, and was crossing the line over 5300 rpm with a AC NL converter. 115 is probably the bottom at which I'd switch to 28" tires.

another thing i cant stand the way those small 26" tires look. car looks like ass.

HELL NO. I WILL NEVER GO INTERCOOLED on this car. i might buy a 86-87 later down the road

IMO 28's are perfect for these cars. Gives you enough gear on the big end of the track and you are correct it makes it look like a contender when you show up on race day.

I like the sleeper look with the 26" tire. 28" might make you look like a "contender" but I get enjoyment out of blowing away trailered and gutted mustangs with a low key stock appearing GN that I drive to the track with the air on.

IMO the taller 28" tire just hooks better. I hate the 26"s on my 11.80 car. I could never get the 60ft just right, the track had better be prepped.

Me too. The 28" tire makes it a lot easier for me to launch consistently. Since my locking torque converters don't lock, I need the 28" tall tire for the 'big end'.

How about a 27" tire? I think MT makes a 255 in 15". Better looks but not quite as radical...

28" rolling diam has not hurt me!

J/K!

o god. now this thread is going to get off topic for sure.

Sweet 6,
Are you using Over Drive or just leaving it in third?
