Anyone know what it all takes to change out the 2004r , tranny to a Turbo 400 and all parts needed.

man, someone should make a TH400 sticky!

Usually all you need is the tranny, shifter, convertor ...

Driveshaft may or may not need cut, you have to check it

Crossmember hole (tranny mount stud) needs to be ovaled about 1/4" more.

Thats it!

Phil

You will need the bigger yoke also.

opps, yea, i forgot that one - but the shaft still may fit with enough play recommended, mine did

Doesnt the 400 get hooked up to shift via vacuum and not use the electrical 4 prong connector?

Let me know if you are interested in a driveshaft for that, I have one ready of a 400/8.5.

The 400 does have a vacuum modulator but you can get a unit like i had - called a "mechanical modulator" where it works just like a 2004R's TV cable. they are < 100bux

... or you could just get a transbrake and shift her! : )

Would the 400 driveshaft also be the same length for a 12 bolt housing vs. a 8.5 rear? Is there any more info on the mechanical modulator? Does the mecnanical modulator also use the 4 pin connector like the 2004r? Doesnt both trans use the tv cable irregardless of which modulator you use?

No, 12 bolts have different pinion lengths, longer I believe
A mechanical modulator uses a cable to adjust the line pressure inside the transmission based upon throttle possition.
The mechanical modulator uses a simple but callibrated wheel valve that attaches via cable to the throttle wheel
A TH400 doesn't use a cable off of the throttle for kickdown, instead it uses an electric switch on the gas pedal. Lokar sells a cable kit that allows you to retrofit a car without a gas pedal switch that will give the proper elecrical signal for the kickdown solenoid.

Thanks much- never heard of this before. think im gonna use it on my 350 trans install.

Phil, where did you get this modulator? Sold my WE4, but my current ride has a roller cam that is making borderline vacuum for a traditional modulator. Thanks.

I thought i already posted this but i gues it didnt go thru...

B&M makes one, but i got mine at a tranny parts supplier... Then i gave it away when i got the brake... i would just save the 100bux and buy a brake for 200... only downside might be that auto is lost; they dont make auto transbrakes for the 400 as of yet.
