wow thanks for all the info guys it's safe to say im going to pass on the t-top car. It looked clean from the pics and the guy seemed nice but in the end it's not what I want and I don't really want to trade away a dream vehicle of mine for something I won't be happy with plus my wife would kick my azz if I traded and the t-tops turned out to be a nightmare.

here's a picture of the car

I have a couple questions. You guys are pretty hard onthe t,s I mean I understand that they are weaker but they must sell some kind of bracing. Aren't there any real fast t-top nationals out there? Another is an in general question, are convertables/targa tops(like the vettes) weaker than t,s? I have a t myself and love it. Like the fact I can pop them out and also think it's cool to have a glass roof.:)

On Corvettes actually the 1968 Corvette was the first GM car to my knowledge that offered T-Tops. Hurst made several versions of T-Tops called Hurst/Hatches popular in the 1970s for the F body cars. When they are new they are great. If they have been well kept and car is bone stock they are great.

If modifying T-Top Turbo Regals is your goal that is where issues arise. Water don't need much of a space to leak in. Water leaks can be very frustrating. Carpets work like sponges and damp smells linger like cigarette smoke. Its there forever.

Plenty of bracing is available but it needs to be done before the tops start to squeak rattle and move out of positon. Granted they were a popular option but even Ford on the Mustang a some point during the Fox years discontinued the T-Top option probably because leaks developed while under warranty.

The Buicks have 23-24 years of experience with T-Tops and the issues. Its like powermaster brake problems everyone knows they can be an issue in these cars also. Sure a few owners get lucky and never have a problem, but the majority usually do have a problem.

past owner of many Turbo Regals even T-Top examples.

I love mine, but they do make some noise. But over all I can live with the noise for some good sunny day cruise's with tops off. The bad part about mine is that T-top cars were in such high demand that GM could not keep up with t-top request. So they used some out siders to put some of the tops on the cars. Unfortunately I have one of those cars, it was done by a company called C & C, I have got in touch with the gentleman who bought C&C’s entire remaining inventory, but he has a limited supply. But if you’re in the market for a hard top ca,r my father has a hard top GN he may trade.

How does one check if your T-Top Car was done by C&C?

My buddy had a GM factory t-top car and I just noticed that they were not an exact match. So he was the one that told me the story about supply and demand. Anyway, on both of my tops there is C & C marked. The last time I spoke with the guy that bought the inventory I spoke of, he told he had plenty of trim pieces and that sort of stuff. But had one passenger top left and wanted like $800 for it. Another words if one of my tops break, I'll have to put her back the way she was born, a hard top. Hopfully I can find a good roof and body shop.

If your Turbo Regal has factory installed T-Tops the trunk ID label which has all the important codes would have the code for the T-Top option which is CC1. Several companies did aftermarket T-Tops. Dealers had them done for potential customers. C & C as mentioned above was one of the big players back then. I believe C & C stood for Cars and Concepts.

Most of the aftermarket T-Tops had shorter front to rear glass meaning the part above the windshield was a wider width of metal.

Back when Hurst made T Tops for the F body cars they even had a thick manual on how to cut your roof to install the T-Tops...I have a copy of that book. Not something you want to do on a Saturday afternoon!

To each his own! I couldn't stand the rattles, leaks(had all the new weatherstripping and extra foam/rubber strips up there too), water shooting in at the carwash, getting baked in the summer by the hot-house effect or the glass trying to fly out of the roof under hard acceleration(YES- I literally had to catch the driver's side by the handle once, as it lifted off). If I want to go topless, I'll just pull out my Harley and do the Full Monty.

to each his own I guess. I plan on a mid 10 sec car with t's. I went out of my way to find one with t's and wouldent have it any other way. My c6 was a targa and the roof was never on. I do have the rust and is being repaired better than factory. It will be a 10 sec street/show car so I don't ever expect to ever have to worrie about rain.

Not to change subject but since a lot of you beat on the T top cars....I know most of the LS1 F bodies were T top cars....and a lot of them see strip action....I can only wonder how they manage to make it....oh and they're unibody cars too.

mines a t top and love it.some of my other buddys have them and they seem to 60ft like crazy, must be the flex.
