Am I correct in thinking that sliding the t.v. cable further into the bracket will produce softer shifts at lower rpms? When I say into the bracket I mean pushing in the d-shaped tab and pushing the cable towards the firewall. Mine is pushed so far in that no notches are showing. It is pushed as far toward the firewall as possible. This was done by the tranny builder. I have a good 1st to 2nd shift but the 2nd to 3rd only occurs when you rev past 4,000 rpms and let off the gas. The 3rd to O/D works fine, just like the 1-2. I have pulled the cable out 4 or 5 notches but have not driven the car since. I did this because the tranny will not hold any kind of power and I figured pulling the cable out some would firm up the shifts and allow the tranny to build more pressure therefore provide more holding power to the clutches. I thought pulling it out, towards the front of the car, produced firmer shifts at higher rpms? Is this right?

Cable

Pulling the cable out softens shifts & lowers the shift points , pulling it in towards the firewall has the opposite effect.

What would be the problem when the cable is pushed in as far as it can be towards the firewall plus the tranny has a shift kit and brand new rebuild and the shifts are still very soft and the second gear band can't hold the drum when shifting even at only part throttle and very low boost?

If you have correct geometry and the TV cable is at full TV at WOT, and it is shifting soft and slipping, you have a pressure problem.

I would check the pressures.

I have found that the t.v. cable is being pinched by something. It hangs down from underneath the car where you can easily see it from the side of the car and if you tug on it under the hood it is jammed tightly against something. Could being jammed cause the cable to not function properly causing soft shifts and low pressures? I didn't want to yank the cable out because I'm not sure what is pinching it. I do know I'm not taking it back to AAMCO to get fixed.

not to hijack this, but i'm havign some problems adjusting mine too. i can't make it kick down a gear. which way do i want to go, i've been in and out with it, but nothing happens as far as it kicking down a gear.

which way do i want to go?

The pump was replaced during the rebuild, I assume. Other than the pump what would cause a pressure problem like this? I was thinking of getting the upgraded boost valves when the tranny gets done right. What else?

Trans isn't done right until it has the upgraded boost valves.

Pressure regualtor valve or spring, boost valves, pump problem, etc..

A new pump doesn't mean it is a good one.
