TA 49 Rebuild

A friend is donating a TA 49 turbo to my stock '86 project. He told me that there was some oil in the throttle body so I am assuming it needs to be rebuilt. Does anyone know the cost of a rebuild and who I should contact.

Check first to see if the turbo moves in and out, it should barely move up and down.

PTE rebuilds them for $350 I believe and the TA49 is a nice turbo upgrade for a stock GN with no to little mods.

You can buy a kit for under $100 and do your own. But there are two issues. First is that if the shaft and/or housing are worn beyond acceptable limits, you'll have to get that machined and get under/oversized bearings. Might get lucky like me and use standard bearings. Second is that a re-balance is advised. You can mark everything and reassemble just like it came apart without balancing but I wold recommend sending it somewhere to be balanced.
