I am looking at buying an 85 GN and was wondering about the TA33. Does the bigger cfm it flows increase lag? Does it just give more top end power, or will it also increase the torque. How much power would it add and how much power might I be getting with an intercooler. Thanks for any info

I have been there and done it .I need to know is what is the status of the 85GN you are looking at. Is the car stock? What mods. does it have? The TA33C flows twice the stock turbo at 700 cfm. If you are looking for a cheap way to get fast the hot air is a mistake unless your wallet is big. I have paid the price and in the end it does work.Brad

84/85 is not a mistake, it's just not as easy as it's intercooled cousins. They are however cheaper when initially buying the car itself. The hot air cars are a challange, you will throw more wrenches, bust more knuckles, and curse the thing constantly. But once you get it to where your tuning it for max preformance I think all the hot air guys will agree it's very satisfying. I have heard one intercooled owner who bought a hot air say he thought he knew everything about these cars till he bought a hot air.....

Today I pulled out of my housing complex and once I was one the main road I floord it from a slow roll...spun the tires and fishtailed the car into second gear with 16lbs of boost....with the 50r15 I have on the back thats impressive....

specs

Car has rebuilt motor, 15K miles on trans, and 25K miles on h.d. eaton posi with 3.73 richmond gears, waste gate, 19lbs boost, tps tech throttle enhancer, cold air kit w/ 9" K&N filter, 36 lb injectors, new radiator, forged aluminum pistons, high vol. oil pump, new water pump, starter, ceramic coated headers, 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust, heated 02 sensor. He has an intercooler with it I'd like to add. Any ideas??

The 33 will have a very small amount of extra lag, barely noticable.

With only an intercooler and chip I went 13.9@101mph at stock boost levels. The intercooler puts you very close to the stock 86-87 cars.

Hotairs aren't a bad bang for the buck when you're looking to go fast. I had a very mild combo and went 12.9@110mph in street trim and no alky 6 years ago. Should've gone very easy 11s on good gas and tires. I had ~$2,000 in it. The drawback is you will need a header and intake manifold upgrade long before the 86-87 cars will.
