I don't mean to hijack the thread,

My engine is getting an overhaul this winter and I plan on bigger turbo. Would it be better to get my spare stock hot air turbo built into a TA33 instead of buying a fresh TA-49? I'm just worried that I might run into some problems with the TA49, even though others say it will fit. I have the Spearco setup.

Lets stay on course with the thread. Thanks for the comment Brent. ROB350- The Ta33C is a stock hot air turbo machined out with a TA49 compresser installed in the stock housing. CFM increase is from 390 to 700 and around a 30-40 HP increase. The stock TA49 installed on a hot air is better but you need to deal with reclocking and turbo to intake adapters issues. This is out of my league since my car is done mechanically with the TA33C. The members who have put a larger turbo than stock size are Brent(Boost231) and Jamie(Turbo 6x2 ?). I will help anyone. Back to the baseball playoffs. Brad

turbos for our hotair cars are the hardest part to get. The problem is the 87 turbos use a dynamic seal since they use a blow threw setup. with our draw threw setups we have to use a carbon seal backing plate with the correct seals or it will blow oil. Right now the TA-33c is your best option unless u want to spend $1,500 or so.

sounds like you got a handle on things. is this going to be a race car or?

thanks brad for answering his questions saves me from typing all day.

plans are just a race car, don't want it on the street as my insurance rates will go back up..;-) but for now I will keep just enough to be legal for street nights at the track, I have to check and see about the fiberglass doors and lexan windows..may be a hurdle there but I think it will be near to passing..
