Well as my luck would have it my TA49 has some up down movement. Just enough that the blade kissed the housing.
Can I rebuild this? I am thinking about ordering the parts and giving it a try. The blades appear to be fine.
I will Either rebuild myself or upgrade to a different turbo.

Upgrade to a new Turbo .. with the repairs you will be over half way there in the repair .. not worth it

Isn't a new bushing and seal kit $150? What am I missing?

Is the turbine side hurt? The comp wheel should be changed .. Rebalance... Seal kit

It will be more than 150.. Better to just upgrade

I didn't think about it being out of balance.....

From the looks of the leading edges, it looks to have been subjected to considerable dirt.
Time to step up.

Pre-Filters over the K&N makes a world of difference ... I swear by them.. Another thing i commonly see is that the POS stock mafs (especially ones that are original) start to loosen or lose glueing and let small parts go through to the compressor blade... LT1 / LS1 maf are much better in every respect

Well like always I'm asking for advice and then not following it.
I ordered a rebuild kit. I can rebuild it and have it rebalanced for less than $200.
It will by me some time in searching for a new used turbo.
I'm sure it'll lose some efficiency with the blades the way they are but at least it allow me to get this build started. Also if something goes wrong with the start up its not trashing my new turbo.

If you were pushing the turbo hard and maximizing it thats 1 thing ... If you are just using the turbo to whistle and provide sound effects and add some boost thats another thing.. Rebuilding it is ok if you want to just get up and running.. $200 isnt bad if it just needed seals.. But when you open up a turbo you need to check everything, re-balance, so on

Who is rebalancing the turbo?

I found that the AC lines rubbed a hole in the K&N filter.

With a little bit of Intercooler piping and some AL scrap for a bung you can fix that.

Gpopshop provided the rebuilt kit and will be doing the balancing.

That is a good idea. I can't understand why some of our vendors don't offer this as an option. Also I have never understood why the maf pipes don't have an IAC bung.....
