Hi guys!

Have some questions about the ta49.
How much slower is it to build boost than the stocker ? And where does the boost limit goes, before it blow hot air ?
I have a original rebuild transmission, I dont think this is the most ultimate for a bigger turbo.

Daniel

Where the stocker will spool at 1900-2100 RPM, a TA49 will need 2300-2500 RPM to spool.

This should be within the stall range of the stock D5 converter.

With a stock motor, the TA49's sweet spot is around 23 psi of boost (vs. around 20 psi for the stock turbo).

Note that with a stock motor, the TA 49 won't start making more power than the stock turbo until you get above 17-18 psi of max boost.

So what you mean is that the TA49 is just a waste after 23 psi ?

Hmm... I wonder if the 1/8 time would be higher with a larger turbo due to the turbolag.

Daniel

I run a TA49 on C16 i have found the sweet spot is 24-26. It spools very fast and all in all, it is a nice unit and has enough for high 11's.

Again IMO I have about 10 passes on mine. ;)

No, it's not a waste, its just more efficient at 23 psi than it would be at 25 psi. If you are planning to run 25 psi with a TA49, use a chip with more timing or choose a larger turbo.

Your 1/8 mile time will not be slower with a TA49 unless you are running low boost (like 16-17 psi). Note that your Trap mph will always be higher with a TA 49 because reduced backpressure make more top end HP. The area under the curve may be less at lower boost levels than with the stocker.

There should be NO turbo lag with a TA49 unless your converter is not a Proper D5. You should be able to launch with a fully spooled turbo.

My best time with the stock turbo in the 1/8th mile was 7.7 seconds@89 mph. With a TA49 and the stock D5 converter, I have run 7.35@93 mph with BFGDR's at 23 psi of boost.
