I have everything I need to convert to an 87 ECM, 87 MAF and coil pack and module. The question I have is can I install these one at a time or do I need to convert all at once.

If it can be done using a step method, I was thinking about installing the coil pack and ignition module first. Running the car for a while, then installing the MAF, run for a while again, then do the ECM.

I've come from a lot of past experiences that when I do several changes at one time I have to undo everything when something in the combination doesn't work right. I then have to figure out which component in the mix messed me up.

Thanks

84-85 upgrades

Do the upgrades, one @ a time. I did the ECM,MAF & Fan all at the same time, & chased a few small problem,( faulty contact @ one of the ECM plugs), got that all lined out, then changed to the type II coils & did the rewire myself. Runs great. Be ready to retune the entire engine( TPS,IAC the simply stuff). Made a world of Diff.

You must do the ignition module and coil together. Due to the differences in the hot air MAF and the ic MAF, I swap the ECM and MAF at the same time as well. Those swaps should be fairly straight forward.

Thanks for the responses. So the coil pack and ignition module can be installed without the 87 ECM, but I can't install the 87 MAF without installing the 87 ECM? I have a friend that has an 87 GN so I guess he can test the 87 MAF before I install it.

Thanks

Best to test those too, cause a bad one will make your car run like crap. It's worth doing the upgrades, you'll be happy with them I'm sure.

Step 1 accomplished. The coil and ignition module are installed and it runs!

Now I just need to chase down an 87 to test the MAF. Should be too hard to chase one down since they made so many of them ;)
