I have a modified '87 GN. Just got the trans rebuilt with all Art Carr clutches, steel sprags, steel 4th planetary....the works. It has a brand new 10" 3,000 stall lockup converter. The TCC worked for a few days, then began sticking. On my way back to the trans shop, the TCC acted like it didnt want to lock up. The trans shop replaced the TCC solenoid. Now the TCC locks and immediatly unlocks. I checked all the wiring, the brake switch, even manually grounded pic "F" on the ALDL and the TCC does the same thing everytime. I took the car back again, got a new solenoid and new pressure switches.....same thing. Can anyone tell me if it could possibly be in the trans itself?? The guy that built keeps blaming it on the electrical system. I'm trying to sell the car and need to get this fixed but noone has an answer....yet. Thanks!!

Do you run the larger trans filter? I had a similar problem at one point and it turned out the trans filter was touching the pressure switch (3rd/4th) and creating a bad ground.

It was easy to catch with direct scan as 3rd gear indicator would flicker instead of the tcc doing anything weird.

It's easy to check and I believe someone in this forum suggested the above as the problem (2+ years ago).

Very interesting, I think that the 3rd gear switch was flickering now that you mention it. I am not sure about what trans filter he used on the car, but, if I remeber correctly, it did look different than the ones I am used to seeing. I kinda thought that filter looked odd when I first saw it as he took the pan down to replaced the solenoid. I'll have to check it out!! Thanks!!

Well, turns out he did not use a larger filter on my trans. He thinks it has to be a bad converter. Seems the company he got it from doesnt seem to think so though, they want the converter sent back so they can test it. Ugh, looks like I'll be without my freakin car for about a week......maybe more. I gotta take it back to him next week, he's too busy right now. Why doesnt anything ever work right the first time on this car?? lol
