What would cause my TCC solenoid to lock up after a pass and stay locked up without the switch being grounded. I unplugged the 4 prong connector at the tranny and replaced the TCC switch to no avail??? Seems like the solenoid is stuck in the locked position, is this possible? TIA

lock up

i had to drop the pan and replace the tcc on my tranny hope this helps:cool:

Need more info Joe. Does it ever unlock? Is the TCC still engaged when you first put it in gear (engine tries to die)?

If you unplugged the 4-prong connector...it should never lock up.

  1. Verify that solenoid is getting (and loosing) power via the switch
  2. remove solenoid - using a small screwdriver, ensure that the "plug" inside the tranny (exposed only when you remove the tcc solenoid) freely moves in and out when you push on it and release with the screwdriver.
  3. If the plug sticks just once (try it a dozen times), it is probably the culprit.
  4. If eveything is OK or if it is locking up with the 4-prong connector unplugged, then its time to discuss with your trans builder.

Joe, I just had the same problem, it stayed locked all the time. I spoke to Bruce T and he told me the same thing as Scott is saying, unplug it and drive around a bit to check it out. If it is still locked then, it is something internal, as Scott said. Bruce is sending me a new solenoid and shift kit :) . We are staying at the Motel V6 again this year at BG, maybe we will get a chance to talk.

Joe,
Do as Scott said and remove the pan and tcc solenoid. Take a pick or very small screw driver and make sure that the converter clutch valve moves freely. there is a small hole in the cover you can see the bottom of the valve. It has a return spring so when you push it up it should return on its own very easy. If this is ok there can only be 2 other problems.

1) TCC solenoid or electrical problem
2) Converter

Another thing I have seen that is rare is check your scan tool and see if it shows that the trans is in 3rd or 4th gear when the car is in 2nd or even park. I have seen an open switch sometimes cause problems like this. Unlikely but can happen.

The lock up actually drug the motor down enough to stall it, and pushing on the brake pedal didn't unlock it. I did unplug the 4 prong connector and it stayed locked up. I suspect it might be the solenoid as I was having bad feelings about it a month ago when it would delay for a few seconds after I hit the TCC switch, and act all kinds of wierd! I will however do all the checks that were suggested to verify the checkvalve is working correctly. I'll have to remove the solenoid anyhow, might as well check the internals.
Hey Lonnie, good to see your puter is back up and running:) Since I'll have the pan off, how about that pinned gov. and the other aftermarket thing we spoke about???
