I replaced the TCC solenoid last week thinking it was that. I still get no lockup of the torque converter. I have been without lockup for about 6 months now. My cruise control suddenly went out at the time and then I noticed my TC wouldn't lock up. I run an aftermarket 145 speedo and thought that might be causing the problem since t-link always shows my mph is 20 mph slower than what the speedo says...but my speedo is correct. It also threw off my odometer to only register 66% of my actual mileage traveled.

Sooooooo...should I replace the brake switch now? If cruise control, brakes, and tcc lockup are controlled by that and both the tcc and cruise went out at the same time but I still have brake lights...think it's the brake switch? Or is it really my speedo or something werid like that. Like I said the tcc solenoid is now brand new and hooked up properly. I also have a switch mounted in my ashtrayholder for manual lockup of tcc and i flipped the switch and nothing...top left terminal is for tcc lockup on the aldl connector i know...still doesn't work...what gives??? if my chip is programmed to lockup the tcc at 55 mph and t-link only shows 35 mph...does that mean i have to be going 75 mph in order for the damn thing to lockup???

yup,

cruise control has a minimum speed before it will set as well.... could be the
root of the problem.

The chip is easy to program, The cruise control may be another issue.

Use a scantool and check if the TCC is being commanded to lock by the ECM. But my bet is that you just have to go faster...... (75mph)

so should i just take my car into a speedometer shop and get the speedometer set properly? how much does this usually cost...then will my computer know exactly how fast i am going?

but i don't think my tcc is locking up even at 75 mph...i will double check...if it's not locking up at all still should i replace my brake switch?

The best solution is to remove the speedo reducer thingy. See if that
fixes things and if it does, have the speedo head recal'd to match the
sticker.

And/or you should check with a scantool to see if the ECM is trying to lock it.

If the ECM is trying to lock, then check the circuits:
brake switch
ECM output

It could be that the car takes too much throttle to maintain 75
mph which would keep the chip from locking up.

i will take off the reducer and see what happens...i think that will throw off my mph readings but the ecm will show exactly how fast i am going i think...hmmmmmm this is the only problem i have left in my car...i will try it and see what happens...thanks

Do you have DS?
If not, then find someone to borrow, then check to see if the computer is seeing the same speed as SM or TL shows.

If the computer isn't seeing the same speed as the SM or TL shows, I know your problem. I spent over 6 months trying to find my problem and 10 minutes after using DS I found it.

The VSS buffer is bad.

well guys guess what...i took out the reducer on my speedometer cable and the odometer mileage is now correct again and turbolink shows the CORRECT speed of how fast i am really going....it also shows TCC Lockup is ON exactly at 55 mph...WAHOO! damn wish i didn't sell my cruise control now...oh well

the only problem is...i still have that 145 faceplate on there and it shows 85 mph when i am only going 55 mph on turbolink...hehehe it's weird...i will have to peel that sucker off tomorrow...i am so glad i have gone back to the stock speedo...i kinda missed it anyways...now my actual mileage reads correct again and tcc locks up like it used to...i probably changed the solenoid in the trans for nothing too...oh well live and learn (i seem to be doing that ALOT lately)

A speedo shop can set your speedo up to match the faceplate sticker.

But, an 85mph speedo isn't so bad.......

I know this is an oldie..... but it is kinda funny.... with the 85 mph speedo.... I told a co-worker the other day (after an OD blast wayyyyyy up there)... not to tell his wife how fast we went in my GN (his wife talks to my wife fairly regularly).... I said I would deny it....."we were only going about 90.... I swear" :D

I have had this same problem ever since letting AAMCO rebuild my tranny. It always locked up before going there. Now it won't lock up at any speed even with the manual lock up switch turned on. They said they put some kind of electrical box on the car that showed it was being commanded to lock up. Where is the brake switch? Anything else I need to check? BTW, my third brake light has never worked since I've owned the car. The bulb is fine. Could this be brake switch related as well?

Don,
You had me freaked out for a second. I didn't realize this post was so old. I was going to tell you the converter I sold you was a n/l.
