You know, I have now found posts on Olds, MonteSS, and Buick sites about shuddering that wreaks of tire balance yet isn't. It appears that it is indeed related to the lock-up converter yet, in my case, I'm on my third converter, second transmission, second engine. As wide spread as this problem appears to be, I'm surprised there's not a known cure for this. My latest set-up seems to be the worst and it also has the highest stall speed at 2400rpm. If you tap the brake, gone! Is anyone aware of a particular transmission house that knows about this issue and has ideas on how to solve it?

At the risk of hijacking your thread, I'm kind of embarassed to admit this: I think my "TC shudder" is actually a tire thing. I had convinced myself that it would stop when I hit the brake or dropped it into 2nd (both should unlock the TC) but I don't think it is.

So here's the deal. I put Hoosier QTPs on the back over the winter. Now that the weather is getting warmer, I think they get flat spots a lot quicker. If the car sits for a few days the shudder is really bad. Coincidentally it was worst just about where the TC locks and unlocks (35+ MPH). However, I did a lot of driving this past weekend. By the end of the day Sunday - no shudder. I think the QTPs are so soft that they get flat spots almost immediately when it's hot out.

Make sense?

Anyhow, if you do actually have a TC shudder you'd need to remove the TC and have it checked out. My understanding is that it's caused by the TC clutch in the converter not completely unlocking.

If the engine is running the least bit rough the lock up will amplify it.
