I have a couple questions about this turbo. I'm not familiar with it but read a lot of people are using it.

I'm going to be upgrading my car in the near future to ported champion iron heads and probably a 206/206 roller cam.

I was also going to use a 3" THDP and a stretched IC.

How will this TE45A perform on a set up like this?

What Kind of stall will I need?

What size injectors?

PS- If I wanted to upgrade the IC, downpipe, and turbo now, would the 45a be a good choice with the stock engine?

I just don't wanna buy 2 turbos and don't have the $$$'s to do all at once

Ran a 210/210 on ported 8445 irons and 3000 stall, it ain't enough stall. You'll want 3800 stall or so for the TE45a. Course, I live at 7500 ft altitude, so that might have something to do with it as well.

i have a few of my friends running this awesome old style turbo.
they are all stock engines with many miles and that turbo works great. they use a true art carr 3600 stall. you can ask around some more, but for those who have used this turbo, they will say the same. there are so many turbos out there now like the gtQ's
but for the 45A i have to say i never had problems with it. easy tens on stock engines. hope you can tune:D others have their opinions and this is mine:cool:

stock or stock ported heads.
thdp
72lbs
egt tuning
precision fm
suspension work
116 gas or alky
good chip
I'm not sure if Neal Steward (Brutal Six) still burns chips?

I let my friend borrow mine and he went 10.60's at 30#'s with a bad 60ft. He also went a 6.61 at another track on another day using the same turbo. I really like this turbo alot, it makes for one heck of a street car, if you want the real edge skip this turbo and go to a GT70P-Trim, that thing is awesome. I would run 3500 stall with either turbo.

hey smokinT, what do you think about the gtq 70? i heard people are going back to the p trim which is another good turbo. just wondering what your opinion about this turbo?

This is what I am doing with my car and why. I have ported stock heads 3500 stall and am currently running a TE45A P-Trim. I like it but I am about to step up real soon to a GT 70 P-Trim, B/C I think you need ported GN1's, 4,000 stall, 83's (atleast) for that 70GTQ. I think the 70GTQ is a pretty radical race turbo but I wouldnt use it as a street turbo with that high stall converter it would get some poor mileage and be "squishy" drving around espicially with an .85 housing. I like the TE45A its a nice turbo, I have really beat up on some people with it around here mine has a .63 housing and has been a 10.65 with a 60ft that was 2 tenths off.

I guess in short it really depends on what your ET goal is. I have seen some people get down to mid 10.30's at around 130+ on a GT70P-Trim at 24-25 #'s. If you wanna run 9's and you got the good heads then yea the GTQ with a 4K stall, you should tickle 9's if everything is right. But keep in mind if you go that 9 second route you loose all streetablity and major turbo lag sets in. I believe P-Trim is as big as you wanna go on a street car that sees a fair amount of use.

that sums it up pretty much and answers my questions. thanks alot. i guess i'll just have to see how bad it is on the streets. i have pretty much the set up you said about the gtq 70. i'm experimenting with a precision 3900 loose stall and want to lock it only when on the streets on a steady speed on the highway.
i should have it running soon. I'm just waiting on the darn rain to stop! thanks again smokinT
