I have recently run the TE-45a and absolutly loved it! But now iv'e gone from stock ported heads, 60lb inj, and a stock throttle body to the engine in my sig that has M&A race ported heads, 70mm TB, Hemco plenum, and 85lb inj and a bigger cam. I have a (REAL) Art-carr N/L converter that I plan to have up-graded to a "N" stall 3600-3800 and I'm thinking of buying the PT-70. My question is: Between the TE-45a and the PT-70 what real differance would be noticed? I still want the car to be very streetable and spool quickly and run mid 10's at the strip, is the PT-70 the right turbo for this goal or is there a better one? *Note* (I still have the TE-45a and the injectors just to try out on this engine if I need to.) Thanks, Scot w.

IMHO.... and that is all it is since I have neither of these turbos..... from all I read.... and I do read alot.... the 45A is an easy mid 10 sec turbo (with the right combination)..... while there are plenty of people in the 9's with a 70...... I would think you could run the 70 in the mid 10's much easier than trying to push a 45A in the mid 10's.... I'll bet it takes more boost to get a 45A to 10.50's than it will a 70... and on those not so perfect air days.... you can still run mid 10's with the 70 where the 45A might slow to a high 10.....

Just an opinion....

Either turbo will take you to where your going. You might want to contact Louie L on this board because he has run both on his car. Both turbo's are very streetable, no downsides. 3400 stall is all you would need for the 70. 3600 is to much in my opinion. If mid 10's are what your shooting for 85lb injectors are overkill. Your 60's would be fine with a good fuel pump, but if you wanted added insurance, go with the 72's.

I was thinking about staying with my 45a but with these new heads I was not sure cause these heads really move the air!! I know if I keep the 45a to run what I want i'll have to run more boost than I would with the PT-70.. These heads orriginally came off of conleys (six shooter) car and were recently on Will Wheelers white t-type. I bought Will's engine, it should be up and running this winter. here is a pic of Will's car that I got the engine out of. Scot w.

The 45a is plenty.... Ryan Mosley has done some great things with that little turbo! Better flowing heads= less boost, but MORE POWER!

I have had both turbo's. I did'nt really want to give up my 45A both I got the 70 GTQ in a even trade. Have'nt been to the track with the 70 but my G-Tech gives me about a 3mph increase and with my 3400 - 3600 Vig, spool up is awesome. On the big end the car just feels a little stronger, at the point where the 45A might have stop pulling. It's also a great feeling not to think about upgrading turbos for quite a while. :D

Did both turbos have the same exhaust housing?

The 45a is a fantastic turbo--great street manners and strong at the track. With the 45a I saw 129mph @28 psi with a Non LU. With my BB70Q ( I know it's not a GT ), I saw 132 unlocked @ 23.5 psi w/ my 6 pump and it spools like mad on the street. Brian

Scot, I don't remember what exh housing you have on the 45A, but If memory serves, isn't it a garrett housing?
If so, I'd recommend keeping that turbo and upgrading it with a PTE .85 housing (that's what I'm running on my 44).
You'll need a little more converter than you now have, but the housing will produce a couple more mph (all things being equal). and even more now with the huge flow you'll have, you'll need the better housing.

Make sure to give me a call if you need any help over there.

Dave it's the percision .63 exhaust housing. I'll let you know when I get the engine here. SOON!!! Scot w.

Brian who done your BB70Q? and what did it cost?

Jack Cotton. It's a Turbonetics w/ a PTE .85 Q trim. This is my first Ball Bearing, and it's the best turbo I've owned to date. Spool up on the foot break is insanely fast. Don't remember the exact price, but is was in the $1500 range. Brian
